http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11688/7415404/ A host of prem teams are eyeing our youngster, weve got him at the club until 2014 so could pick up more money for him than we will maynard lol
I'm not surprised. He would be in my first team and i have said previously that i think he may be a future captain at city if he stays at the club and holds down a regular place. I'm glad to see that he has now got over his injury hell. just imagine if Ribs could stay fit that defence would look very different.
because who's to say next year he dosent get injured or when his contracts up and clubs want him we wont get squat for him, i just dont think he is irreplaceable as we dont even play him, if we can get decent money for a player that dosent play then why not.
shiny no just no we need Wilson and i agree he could be our captain one day also his throwing ability we could use with a big target man
If we get a silly money bid then i would sell, I think this is probably just a rumour though a while back I heard Swansea were keeping an eye on him as there owner is Keen on getting in young welsh talent.
bloody hell sell one player and were a selling club, im just thinking of the time we were going to get 3-4 millions for marvin, riberio getting loads of interest, cotteril and lita, we sold them when they were good for us now look at them, terrible just saying if we get offered anything over 1.5 then take it, he dosent play for us and at 22 he really should be in the team every week.
Agree with others here, would hate to think that we used our academy to provide players for "bigger" clubs whilst not using the talents we have nurtured just for financial gain. Whose to say the "bought" replacements would be any better. I still harbour hopes of playing in the premier league, if we become a "feeder" club doesn't that show that we have really given up that hope. Let's make some money in the FA cup for a change, this season.
If I was in charge I would not sell him! I think he is one player that is just going to get better and better, why let a prem club come in and take the credit. which they would also try and on the cheap. He is from Chepstow just 11 miles outside Bristol ok ****ing great bridge that cost a fortune to come across but he can almost be classed as local. He is only young so would probably want to stay in the area lets keep him and build a team around someone that wants to play for his local team. I would think that he has got more loyalty to his club more than a lot of players. Which is what we want not just players that look at us as stepping stones. Like James, just because we live in Chepstow which is classed as Wales, Bristol is still the closest City to us so I class City as my local team.
What Shiny is saying makes sense and selling the odd academy product would finance the academy in itself as long as the offer is more than acceptable, we are after all talking about potential and like Shiny says if he isn't playing? Having said that, personally I would get him in the side and play him, I don't really know why he is in and out all the time?
I'd guess he's in and out of the side frequently purely because he is young and we're in a relegation scrap. If we were comfortably midtable DMc would probably give him more playing time as it wouldn't matter if he made the odd mistake costing a goal.
I am with Shiny - we sold Golbourne and Cotterill for relatively large sums, which they are not worth on the 'where are they now' scale. Who knows what James could be, but why should we take the chance. We sold Andy Cole for just 1.5m and he turned out to be an England player - but that is the only time I can think we have maybe sold a bit on the low side.
I just think that with over 2 years left on his contract there are other players i'd rather see sold. Using the mindset of 'sell while they're worth it' would you guys sell Albert if a decent bid comes in this window?
That is what you're saying though. If we bring through a young player strong at this level we should flog him while the going's good. Cotteril and Lita are bad examples - we were in League 1 when they came through and now we're in the Championship which is a league that gets more competitive and of a higher quality with each successive season. Any young player who looks comfortable at this level we should want to keep a tight hold on.
What i love about Wilson is his desire to get on the pitch and play as against millwall when skuse picked up the knocked to the head he was straight down warming up and Im sure he was hoping skuse had to come off as he looked disappointed to have to go back to the bench. Just wish more players at the club be like that
I did say a few months ago that young JW will (note, WILL and not MAY) be another Caulker. I have watched him very closely and his positional ability and reading of the game is identical. He just needs more games to get him battle hardened and there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that he should be going anywhere unless someone bids £8m plus for him... I'm off my head you say...? Well you only have to look at what clubs are prepared to pay for REAL quality and talent Oxlade Chamberlain (Arsenal) Jones (Man Utd) Etc I think that JW is that good....
