Dissident device 'designed to murder' Police say the bomb which was planted inside a soldier's car in north Belfast on Thursday was designed to murder. Republican group Ãglaigh na hÃireann said it left the device in the vehicle while it was parked in the Black Dam Court area off the Ligoneil Road. On Friday, Chief Inspector Andy Freeburn said the car will be "subject to very rigorous forensic procedures to establish how this was set up". The dissident group said the bomb was placed under the driver's seat in the vehicle and was connected to the seat buckle. "Belfast Brigade Ãglaigh na hÃireann claim responsibility for the bomb attack on a serving British Soldier in Ligoneil", the statement reads. "Our Volunteers got inside the car and placed the explosive device under the seat with a trap wire running to the seat buckle," the statement added. North Belfast DUP MP Nigel Dodds said the bomb was an attempt by "a small number of ruthless fanatics ... to drag Northern Ireland backwards through acts of terrorism and to undo all the progress of recent years". "The device was planted in a residential area where people pass by and children play in the street. It was only through the vigilance of the intended target, who is a serving soldier, that death and injury was averted. "This is a shocking reminder of the need to be vigilant and for the entire community to unite against those who are dedicated to causing violence, terrorism and death," he added. © UTV News
He was Scotch. Left his car door open in a Republican area. There is no accounting for the education system.
Dammit. I can never remember if it's with or without the 'e'. Monaco pulled me up on it the last time.
