Pardew playing down outside chance of the England job?

Bit at the bottom interesting, sounds like a few of the younger lads may get a run out in the cup game.

    Two enforced changes obviously.

    The back line won't change.

I imagine players like Perch, Gosling, Vuckic, Ben Arfa, Best will come in. I think all of them are practically nailed on to appear, whether in the first XI or off the bench.

Cabaye has a knock according to NUFC.com.

I'd rather not play Elliot but if we end up resting Krul then I'm assuming it'll be Elliot who plays.

Mind you, does Krul need resting? Didn't do too much on Wednesday night did he? <whistle>

Squad: Steven Taylor, Danny Guthrie, Sylvain Marveaux, Peter Lovenkrands and Nile Ranger are all out injured while it seems inevitable that both Cheick Tiote and Demba Ba won't appear as they head off for Nations Cup duty.

Yohan Cabaye is doubtful after taking a knock during the win over Manchester United, while Ryan Taylor looked less than 100% during the second half but stayed on.

    Going off this I'd pick:

    Elliot
    Simpson Williamson Colo Santon
    Obertan Abeid Gosling Ferguson
    Benny-----
    -----
    Best

It's a very young midfield but Guthrie and Tiote are unavailable and if Cabaye has a knock I wouldnt risk him. Can always have him on the bench. Would start Cabaye and/or Guthrie if fit. Elliot in goal, Harper's on the way out and we need to see if this guy can cope should Timmy get injured. Best and Ben Arfa up front.

Think it would be harsh on Vuckic if he didn't play here.

I can't see Benny playing 90 minutes so I'm assuming Vuckic would be subbed on for HBA.

Given that Perch has had the nod over Abeid in being on the bench, it's more likely Perch starts in CM with Abeid on the bench.

Agree but I cant really see where he'd fit in? Him and Abeid in CM is a lot on two 19 year olds, Gosling at least has a bit more experience (48 career apps to Vuckic's 11).

I think Perch makes the bench because he is the CB cover.

Don't think Pards will drop Krul no matter what other changes he makes.

    I expect something like :

    Harper
    Simpson Colo Willo Ferguson
    Obertan Abeid Vuckic Jonas
    Benny or Gosling
    Shola or Best

If I were Pardew, I'd play Gosling as number 10 and maybe give Benny 20 minutes in the second half. I wouldn't want him picking any injuries in a competition in which I don't really fancy our chances this year ...

Shola set up a goal and had a decent game (by his standards) so that sets him up as a starter on Saturday and three further games of mediocrity and falling over until he gets dropped or injured again. I would hope after the Carling cup exploits Pardew will put out a strong team with the view of progressing rather than giving youth a run out. Going off NUFC.com injuries and question marks I see pardew playing

    Krul
    Simpson Colo Willo Santon
    Obertan Gosling Vuckic Guti
    Shola Best

see perch, sammy and arfa at some point.

I would personally not go to far over the top and would line up like this.
    Krul
    Simpson
    Santon
    Coloccini
    Williamson
    Vuckic
    Gutierrez
    Abeid/Cabaye
    Gosling
    Ben Arfa
    Best.
