With a number of players recently returning to City after loan spells elsewhere, I've asked fans of those clubs for views on the performances of Lee Johnson, Joe Edwards & Christian Ribeiro whilst at their clubs. NEW from The Exiled Robin: http://exiledrobin.blogspot.com/2012/01/return-of-three-amigos.html?spref=tw Some very interesting views and Ribs in particular seriously impressed at the right end of League One.
I would love to see an experienced midfield three of killkenny, Johnson and JCR. I think with their experience they would dominate the midfield against any club
good article to read that, really did enjoy reading riberio's reviews and he might just earn himself a contract, as for lee johnson it wouldnt matter if he had scored 10 goals and got 10 assists, sadly his future does not belong at bristol city, then theres joe edwards, looked impressive against hull last game of the season, and im sure in 2 seasons he could be around our first team, so his next loan move should be to someone like cheltnham a good side heading for promotion and he will be in the mix of a good atmosphere and playing good foootball, should do him the world of good
Kilkenny and Johnson would certainly pass the ball a lot, but do we need them both? We seem to prefer the steel of Cisse and Elliott at the moment, with Skuse/Pearson/Woolford doing the running around bit. It would be an interesting experiment
Having seen Ribs play for City on 2 occasions I must say the review sums up what I thought of him at the time. Out of the 3 reviewed surely he is the most likely person to stay at AG. Lee's time has come and we wish him well somewhere else perhaps at Yeovil or the likes. Interetsing that his review said that he would probably be better with a different partner rather than with a same-type player. Don't know much about Joe Edwards so will not pass judgement.
We need a right back that's for sure, Skuse does okish there but it's clear that it's never going to become his natural position. Ribs linked up beautifully with Albert when they played together last season and I would love to see more of that. Sadly, we all know that he's gonna do a cruciate 3 games later
I couldn't ever understands Millens decision not to use Edwards given that he gave Edwards a full debut in the last game of the season and in that one game he went away with man of the match as he was outstanding with his positioning, ball control, defending and tried to get forward when he could which is what fans wanted to see and for him to not even get a look in this season was an odd choice
That experienced three doesn't have one that can make a decent tackle or win a ball in the air,god help us!!!
The issue with Ribs is and has always been his health and fitness. We all know he is capable of great things, but time is moving on and he needs to prove that he is physiologically strong enough to be a professional sportsman. My hope is with him stringing a whole season together without injury. Then when we get him back he will be fit and confident
Ribs is a damn good player. You don't get offered £500k by Everton for someone who's never played a first team game and who half of our own fans have never heard of if they are no good. The terrible injury on his debut and subsequent problmes set Ribs back at least 2 years but if he is now fully mended (physically AND mentally), I want to see him and JW form the back bone of our defence, marshalled by the new man, for years to come. These 2 make a mockery of those who say our accademy is a wasrte of money. There is a great deal of value here and we NEED TO USE IT...
A short additional - very promising - comment on Joe Edwards on this post. http://exiledrobin.blogspot.com/2012/01/return-of-three-amigos.html?spref=tw
