Arsenal and United used to blow everyone out the water for wages, which as I said earlier, are more than transfer fees.

Just because Arsenal don't spend £30m on players, that isn't to say they don't make up for that in wages.

E.g Arshavin is on 90,000 a week, Mata is on 60,000 a week. Arshavin's fee was £15m. Mata's fee was £23m.

Arshavin Salary = £4.86m

Mata Salary = £3.24m

After 4 years of their contract (average contract) that would equate to £12.96 for Mata and £19.44m

That would mean if you include transfer fees they almost cost the same, if anything Arshavin slightly more despite paying £8m less for their player who woild actually have no resale value unlike Mata.

This is just a random example
