    Found this in the chronicle

SHANE FERGUSON is understood to be the subject of interest from Championship clubs West Ham United and Barnsley.

The Northern Ireland international is wanted on loan by the East End club, while Barnsley are also keen on keeping their relationship with the Magpies in operation having already borrowed Nile Ranger earlier this term.

Sam Allardyce needn’t have looked further than his captain and former Toon star Kevin Nolan to get a glowing reference on the talents of 20-year-old Fergie, after working with the youngster last season when the Derry lad burst on to the scene under Chris Hughton.

However, whether Newcastle will sanction any loan move for one of their best young players remains to be seen, given he is so close to the first-team pool and only a couple of injuries or suspensions away from getting his chance.

Ferguson has just recovered from a thigh injury sustained while on international duty with the Northern Ireland Under-21s but is now fully fit for selection.

The player is ambitious and put his name forward to replace the then-unsettled Jose Enrique at the start of the season.

But disaster struck for Ferguson when he suffered an ankle injury which ruled him out of the rest of pre-season during an ill-fated friendly with crisis club Darlington.

It meant Ferguson was instantly pulled out of the club’s tour of the United States and lost his chance to shine with Enrique clearly on his way out of the club.

Instead, Ryan Taylor stepped in to take his chance at left-back and the arrival of Davide Santon has also made life tougher for Ferguson.

Personally I think a loan would be good for him and I'd like for him to go to Barnsley so we can have a Championship club to loan our young players to.

I think a loan would do him good. He needs to get used to the physicality of first team matches.

Dunno if you're trying to be sarcastic or not but if he does go i'd like him to play in the blackburn match first.

A loan would be perfect, he's no higher than 4th choice on the wing or at full back right now and he can showcase his talents with a run of games.

Yep, if he isn't gunna get a game then loan him out. He is better than George McCartney and Matt Taylor so would play majority of games for them imo

Should keep one of them for cover IMO. Ferguson is the one who's out of favour.

No to West Ham, don't see what he would learn, 90mins of seeing the ball fly over your head. Would rather see him used as cover for LB or on the left wing but Pardew seems to prefer Sammy <doh>

He is a fantastic dribbler, against Stoke and West Brom last season (both left wing appearances) he was great! Just wore himself out a bit...
