According to the Swindon Advertiser we have made a bid for your lad Luke Rooney. Gillingham are considering whether to accept the offer at the moment. Remember when you guys visited the County Ground in October and he was your best player by far. I don't know how much the offer is bur what can you tell me about this lad?

Big-Tackle, to summarise Rooney in a way that I'm sure most Gills fans would agree:
He has the potential to be very good, however I can't see him ever realising that real potential. You will get flashes like Swindon away where he did well, however he is the sort of player that will consistently look to do everything himself which can sometimes include shots from 40 yards and running into blind alleys.
Personally i like Rooney, but only as an impact sub. He's absolutely perfect to bring on with 15 minutes to go when you're chasing the game or if you're looking for someone to open up a drab game then he's your man.
However when he starts, he can be reckless in the wrong areas and consistently try to do too much.

I don't think he would be able to cope with League 1 football either as he only shows some magic and my problem is once he gets a run in the team is that his performances get worse and he becomes complacent.
Some times a change of scenery does a player good. Maybe he's been too comfortable at the Gills. If/when he moves on I really hope he is able to kick on. IMHO he should be able to go further, ability wise, but as others have said attitude could be a stumbling block. One thing he could certainly do with is getting a proper agent. Someone like Steve Davies (not the snooker player) would see him in the right direction.

Kuffour? Sadly I think it's looking more and more unlikely by the day. If the rumours of a Crawley bid are true then I can see that being his likely destination. However you would hope that because he knows the Gills lads and enjoyed his time here, he would be happy to return. But then again if the "Jo 4k" rumours precede him then he'll be off to the Red Devils.
Rooney? Couldn't care less. If he wanted to play, he'd play. An immature little boy who deserves nothing. If I refused to turn up to work for a couple of weeks because a bigger person told me not to, they'd have my job. Cash in.
A striker much required, but we would need the right person. A young, hungry loan striker a la Cody wouldn't go amiss, someone who can provide Kedwell with some respite and a good link up striker, fox in the box as it were.
A winger would be nice, the McGlashan 200k rumours did make me chuckle. However the problem we'd have then would be a right/left winger in a very unbalanced midfield. Rooney is the only "natural" winger in the squad as it stands and even he spends most of his time bloody running around as a chicken looking for his head.
Hess has to balance the books and spend (if at all) wisely, but I trust he will make the right choices

My belief was that because negotiations were on going he was not for selection. Not sure, If you do some looking he don't get many goals and to make a laugh I was not thinking right and I thought he is another oli LOL, which is true, but his goal rate is like Dennis Oli.

Agree with Gemini. Is a player that can't get into the first team of the club 3rd from bottom really what we should be aiming for?
He's a Gillingham lad too though, and presumabley Hess knows/remembers him from his time here in his youth.
If the Kuffour deal goes ahead too I won't be complaining, just hope this isn't the only arrival.

Agree we need Kuffour or similar soon if we want to push on. Tomlin may give us some width and pace though, but like you LAD hope he is not the only signing!!

I honestly feel that Tomlin could be a surprising player, sure his scoring record isn't too high at D&R but they do play a completely different style from us. I didn't really enjoy their style when they were promoted and they lost their goal scoring talent. My belief is that he will turn out to be a Rene Howe type of player but with added pace, able to stretch the opponents back line. That said whenever he has signed for a League team he always seems to pop back into the non league for a season.... : /
Tomlin is a good addition, he may turn out good and one person who is happy to see him back is Kedwell, they knew each other from their times in the youth team, so they are happy to link up, they have also kept in touch and Kedwell said to me that he advised to him to join us and that they would work well.
Essam's loan at Dartford has been extended for another month and Evans at Welling has also been extended.
