The Derry 2013 All Ireland Fleadh bid is in jeopardy because of division in the County Comhaltas board. It seems that there is a South Derry contingent who do not like the 'UK City of Culture' link. What a stupid reason to oppose something that would bring a much needed boost to local bars/restaurants/hotels/B & Bs/shops. Why do people still hold this backwards view and use it to oppose a huge event that draws visitors from across the globe, and that could bring millions of pounds to the local economy?
**** sake First, the Unionist councillors walking out over a Christmas sign in Irish and now this. What next? Knocking back an EU grant because it's in "taigy Euros"? Severing links with the sea cos it's a "proddy blue"? Sometimes you realise Scotland isn't quite as childish as it could be....
Just looked it up there. ****ing daft ****s. The Fleadh will come to Derry. It doesn't have to have a thing to do with the city of culture. Dopey ****s.
When I read the article title, I imagined a wee toaty beastie dressed in a Leprechaun outfit doing a wee jig.
stormont. The Irish government were funding a lot of it so the unionists said no. On the plus side, Chico Jetset's journey to work isnt going to be made easier.
I've read the OP and all the other posts and I'm still none the wiser as to whats happening here Potato!!!!
Dear Northern Ireland, I haven't seen you in some time and I apologise. You'll be pleased to know that your face is absolutely raging just now. I still miss you though, Love, Your Nose xx
**** sake like was a regular all-ireland competitor to a good level for years but left as soon as I was able to make my own decision about my participation within Comhaltas. Couldn't stand the money grabbing and petty politics of the organisation. This does not surprise me in the slightest
There has to be more to this story. I am no great lover of the uk city of culture ****e, but i know this city needs it. Coincidentally i got a call the other week from the head of a company that had just that day won quite a lucrative contract for the culture thing. They were based in Englandshire. It was all pleasant and nice and stuff and i told her what she wanted to know. I had no idea what the criteria was for the award of this contract, but why an Irish firm didn't get that gig I have no idea.... So i asked. She basically said we did't have the technical capabilities..... So i called her a racist and hung up. Not really, but i did wonder why a local firm couldn't put together a bid to get the technical capability.
I probably would have, only gossip is like currency in this town. If I stay being nice I'll get the inside track on the project and become "a man in the know".
