Just because the SUN newspaper, that bastion of truth, claims the hold up is the fault of New York, that doesn't make it so. It takes 2 to negotiate !! Arsenal are the ones who want the player so Arsenal should've given enough time to negotiate tot he satisfaction of NYRB - NYRB don't owe Arsenal a damned thing ! Clearly Arsenal didn't give enough time for negotiations or, as usual, are being tight arsed !!
i've heard the delay is due to some discrepancy between the dates arsenal want to have henry until. nyrb want him back a bit earlier for some pre season training i believe
Perhaps Ole' Henry will inspire the team to what they used to do best as in the 2004 season - put a game out of reach within the first 30 minutes. An early burial of the Spuds would be good for the nerves
Not sure that's true Hothead. Having played in their first Emirates Cup a few months ago I think there is a relationship, I'm sure there are mutual benefits for both and who knows what deals have been agreed for the future, it's certainly in no-ones interests to drive a wedge between the clubs. MLS season begins 10 March so I doubt the delay is linked to disagreements about Arsenal extending the return date, I'm sure NYRB will want him back long before the first league game. I'm not sure how long he has left on his contract with NYRB, maybe Arsenal are looking to take Henry permanently and as there's no buying/selling players in US Sports there's a compensation package with the club being drafted ? ? ?
Jayram, the point is that none of us know when a decision was made, when negotiations started, why there is a delay, or what other deals AW was/is planning, criticism in my book is therefore unwarranted. Post clear evidence of times/dates of all communication with NYRB and I'll retract my previous comments
Silly me - how could there be any other reason other than its all NYRB's fault for mucking us around.
Grizzly with all due respect, none of that matters. It is all speculation. BUT what we DO know is: We've been relying on RVP to score goals. Chamakh has not been performing. Chamakh and Gervinho are off to the ACON. We don't have any suitable replacements up front. With this in mind every decision should've been a "given". YES, we need a replacement striker, YES Henry is available. YES Henry still looks good, YES lets look at bringing him in on loan. Its not complicated at all and you don't need to know football to see this, so why didn't the club see this and if they did, why didn't they do something about it a long time ago ??
Yes everything you say is correct, but how you you know there weren't plans drawn up in September ? The club might have been working tirelessly on bringing in quality replacements for all we know, maybe the selling/lending clubs have gone back on agreements, maybe negotiations are still ongoing, maybe we haven't been able to agree personal terms, maybe Arsenal have done **** all and think Park and a 15 year old from Barnet reserves is the answer, we will never know !
Jayram, you may well be proved correct, unfortunately our business is conducted in a certain manner and no club rep will ever stand up and say that we got let down by Fred or John or Charlie wanted a million quid a week so we gave up on him etc...
Where Arsenal's non disclosure falls down is when the other parties involved do decide to disclose information and that happens plenty of times and often highlights what the problems actually were.
So why then are you so quick to blame our employees? especially when it's been established that you don't have the facts as they are not disclosed? Nobody is using this as a rebuttle to any criticsm of the club, what we're saying is that simply jumping in and laying the blame at Arsenal's feet is naive when you don't know the full picture. That position looks increasingly untenable when two different news sources are now saying that the delay is down to the New York Red Bulls.
So you think it's right that the club's employees are not blamed for the delay, and in the same breath you say that the club's employees are a 'shambles' for the delay. And you call me a hypocrite Give it up Jayram.
it's not double standards when you say the Mail made up a story, and then refute a quote from the Metro really is it?
You were the one who said they were responsible - despite news stories now saying that it is the Red Bulls who are responsible. You blame them, but you also think it's right for the club not to blame them - I would say that is a contradictory statement.
Just because they are owned by the same company, doesn't mean that they have the same journalists, or run the same stories. The mail did make up the story that Jayram was quoting, because Sky Sports later disproved it with an interview with RVP. This is completely different from saying that because the Mail made it up, therfore the Metro must also make every story up also - that is ludicrous.
just a friendly word. you're really coming off badly here Jay. maybe best to just drop it? it was old a few days ago, now it feels like a small child hammering on the wall of their bedroom trying to get out while all the other children are using the door.
According to the I newspaper on Monday the decision to sign TH was only made after Boxing Day.According to a German journalist on Talksport, Arsenal have made concerted efforts to sign Podolski but to no avail.I supose there is a chance Henry was only signed on loan as Podolski wasn't available
I really think you're the only person who see's even a shred of hypocrisy here. I'd be interested if anyone else things there's any hypocrisy!? Very astute observation there Cym - I hadn't considered that, but it certainly seems possible.
