you cannot fulfill the role of PM because part of that function is to appoint the head of the C of E on behalf of the monarch. Blair is now a Catholic btw and spent all his years as PM living as a Catholic, raised his kids as Catholic, but did not reveive the eucharist.

In the US, a person couldn't get elected President of a toilet block let alone President of the country, if he professed to be an athiest. Would the voting public of the UK care if a potential PM was a non believer?
