He was extremely solid overall, but I feel people underestimate how it was influencial. He was trusted by those around him, Tiote got forward more than he ever did, Simpson was committed, etc... The fact that he can defend, in the true sense of the word (playing offside isn't true defending really) shined throughout the rest of the team..

Won every ball in the air that came at him, was positionally excellent also. He was very good tonight. It does help when you have the world class Coloccini next to you though.

Wrote this at HT but didn't want to tempt fate so didn't write the article. Totally spot on, an "old school" win the ball and do the simple stuff defender. He was excellent tonight and is totally underated!!

Williamson and Saylor are very similar in ability defensively, but Saylor edges it offensively

But who gives a **** <diva>

Said it time and time again, we have the potential to be a better side with Iron Mike over Saylor (Not saying Steven hasn't been fantastic this season)

I remember all the Wycombe fans coming on here and telling us what a gem we had signed when we first got him. How right they were.

Well said OP. Willo was excellent today and deserves more credit than he has been getting.

Mike Williamson is continually underrated – many seem to think he's not prem standard but has seldom disappointed when called on.

Having Coloccini alongside would help anyone, but it works both ways in terms of having confidence between the two.
When you then throw Krul and Simpson into the mix PLUS Tiote in front it just spreads through the team from there...

We will struggle to buy a better CB than Mike Williamson in this window, not least because we won't pay the prices it would take

Yeah, but just imagine how bad he'd be without Coloccini next to him!

We still need cover. But I doubt we'll go and get someone really good like Samba. So maybe looking at a young player such as Tomkins is the right choice. Really we should be looking to loan say ..Alex, but I'm sure he will get bought. There aren't many half decent centre halves around that are currently permanently benched, and looking abroad is always risky with defenders. Bassong would be a good fit imo. Knows the club, can't get a game, cover for lb. We should be in for him with a view to a permanent deal for 3 mio. Who cares what happened in the past.
