I think thats a really negative way of looking at it. Do you just want us to roll over and give them the game ?!
Why not have a go, after all, its on a saturday, theres no game in midweek, ok, if we draw then that might be a time to have a think about what the priorities are - but i really dont understand this talk of second string, priorities etc - i dont get it at all.

Not being negative at all. I'm just asking people to consider the consequences of winning in the FA Cup, I'm going on Saturday and would love to see us win just like every game - Its called being a Supporter.

What I dont want to see is us substituting the League for a good cup run only for our League form to dip. We lose a cuople of games and the boo-boys will be back in town.

In response to two cup games cant ruin our season I can present two examples:

Leeds two years ago were about 15 points clear by the time they played Manchester United, they ended up only just getting promotion that year.

Charlton in '94, we got to the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup and lost 3-1 to Manchester United, up until that moment we were on course for a Play-Off spot yet fell completely away (as confirmed by Garry Nelson in his book)

I will agree thought that the latter is a pretty poor example though as in '94 we were still coming back out of the dark and the game against Manchester United did probably mark the start of our revival and promotion four years later.

Another thought is the fact people are arguing about us playing a second string, how many times this season have people said they want to see Bover, Pritchard, Alonso, Evina yet when the opportunity arrises everyone says they want to see the usual faces out there again.

I hope before the 8k bought their tickets they realised away fans don't get to see the MJ statue.

I really, really dont understand the argument here. Whats to say that a good cup run might not help us? - you just dont know - i'm sure there are plenty of other examples to counter the 2 you provide. The Nigels dont seem to be doing too badly now,do they?

Tell you what, lets just not turn up and ring Fulham up and let them know they've won the game, In some respects i'd rather do that then turn up and play with only 3/4 of the regular first team.I wonder what the 7/8 thou there would think about that when we get stuffed.
Its just a rubbish argument and has very little merit whatsoever(at this point in time).

Why would anyone want to see the MJ statue? Unless it were to rip down.

For those calling for our strongest team, is that really fair on the likes of Waggy, Pritchard, Hayes etc who helped us get to the third round in the first place?

Is playing with a weakened team fair on the 8,000 fans ? When did fairness ever come into football ???

Is it fair for 18,000 fans to potentially watch an injured, demoralised or fatigued starting 11 for the next few league games, which in this day and age are the priority?

I dunno how many times i have to try to put my point across here - have you ever thought that there might NOT be any injuries, have you ever thought they might NOT be demoralised (in actual fact, it may be the opposite) - and have you ever thought they might NOT be fatigued - after all, when are we playing?, oh yes, on a saturday, when do we normally play, oh yes, on a saturday, whens the next game - oh yes, its next saturday !! - and have you ever thought about how much of a high 8,000 fans will be on should we win.

Tell you what, dont come back to me if we do win telling me how much of a great game it was, and how great it will be to have Man U at The Valley in next round. And also, dont come back to me if we play a weakened team and get smashed and have 8,000 disgruntled fans.
I really cant comprehend the mentality of not playing our best team and going for a win. Full Stop, Period, End of. Its just a negative, defeatist, timid strategy that has no place in my world. Sorry.
    No offence - sorry nutnut.

Tewkes, you're keeping very quiet on this - whats your take?

If you get your skates on you might just clinch the Republican Party nomination. They don't seem to be very happy with what else is on offer.

    Hi Addicks!

Like to see you guys doing well - nice club. I remember going to the old Valley several times with my dad as a nipper - always a better experience than Selhurst or the Den.

Also watched Eddie Firmani playing for Southend back in the 60s when I was at school in Essex.

    Should be a fun day.

Here's an alternative Fulham view: I'm quite happy for you to be rude about the MJ statue - most of us are!

Like other Fulham fans on here, I have a soft spot for Charlton (my grandad was a supporter, and was in the crowd for your record attendance referred to earlier in this thread). I hope it's a great match, and that afterwards you will have nothing left to distract you from earning a well-deserved promotion!

Best of luck for the rest of the season, whatever happens on Saturday.

It's a modern day aspect of the game now though. Whether you agree or not, thats your opinion. I think we should play a full strength team as I want an idea of how good this team actually is. If we played Nottingham Forest away I would have said I hope CP rests a few players.

But if we win, it doesn't mean the fans can't come back happy. We all want to win, but sometimes you have to bear in mind as to what extent. I think every manager has the sam train of thought.

He did one good album, Thriller, and that's about it. Not worthy of a statue in a Football stadium. I would have gone with a statue of one of their legends.

Secondly, remember when Leeds beat Manchester United. They went quite a few matches unbeaten, and fell out of the playoffs. Almost cost them automatic promotion. Came down to the last day in the end.

Yep, already mentioned - and already countered with there must have been many other situations where it has galvanised teams to further things.

I agree (he's not my musical cup of tea, but some of his pre-Thriller stuff, solo and as part of the Jackson Five, is worth an honourable mention as well!) As for a statue of one of our legends, our Johnny Haynes statue pre-dates the Jackson one and can be seen in front of the Stevenage Road entrances whichever section of the ground you have a ticket for, or even if you are just passing by. To be honest, the MJ statue is Al Fayed's folly and most (though not all) of us would rather it wasn't there. For a while the club sold a load of Jacko merchandise themed around the statue, but there was no mention of it in the last catalogue they sent out. I suspect that means it wasn't the money spinner that we were told it would be. I'm not sure that was the only reason Al Fayed did it though - it would be a fairly cold and calculating response to a friend's death if it was. Either way, the only MJ I'm interested in seeing at the Cottage is the one currently occupying the dug-out.
