    Very probably.

    What has come out of it is that 2 of the right guys have been caught and sentenced. There has been a recognition of the mistakes made and the institutional racism in the met and attempts have been made to address them.

    I know there is an element of a show trial and there is political capital to be gained out of it. That has been the point Ciaran has made throughout this discussion. That has to be separated out from the rest of the **** going on.

    1) The double jeopardy mechanism for one of the defendants. (is this a retrial for a previously heard case or does the mechanism used make it a completely new prosecution case).
    2) The reliability of the evidence (solid imo).
    3) The racial motivation for the crime (its relevance to the case)
    4) The institutional racism of the Met (Did this have any bearing on their **** ups?)

    There are of course political games afoot, but in terms of justice, the important thing is the reliability of the evidence. Everything else, make hay.
