Evening all. I am proposing an Ante-Post tracker for anyone who wishes to display their ante-post selections for the Cheltenham Festival in March. It is not a competition, no stakes have to be mentioned- all I believe should be tracked is the odds taken, name of bookmaker (Betfair included) and the date the bet as struck.

It will aim to serve as a nice tracker during the week of the festival and we can see who was on the right lines, who justified their value, and if anyone landed a cracking winner.

I'd be happy to maintain the thread and update as per your requests.

Feel free to tell me if this is an idea you approve or disapprove of. I have a view to making it a 'Sticky' thread, with the Approval of yourselves and in particular, Ron.

Slight overlap with this but feel free. The other thread is only stuck when a race is nearing as it was closed end of October. I guess your thread will be open right up to the Festival so will probably need to stick it in case it gets "lost".

Yeah Ron I couldnt find the old thread so wondered where it was.

I agree it overlaps. What shall we do? Amalgamate the two and update as necessary?

Might be worth discussing with CG. CG's thread includes 2 races outside Cheltenham whereas yours is specifically Cheltenham and covers more Cheltenham races. Some administration will be duplicated if not merged but merging will place all the admin of the 2 on one person. I suppose it depends on who has the least labour intensive admin and whether you want to start yours from now or 1st Nov.

I suspect you will keep them separate as one is closed and it will avoid compromises. I'll leave it to you to decide.

    Here's my (very) early thoughts.

Champion Hurdle - backed Unaccompanied 35/1 before the Istabraq

Mares Hurdle - think 13/8 Quevega is a stonking bet and she'll be 1/2 come March

Cross Country - Sizing Australia 6s - ante post betting on a handicap is not smart before the weights are announced but this division is weakened with the old guard getting older and Sizing Australia has a chance to dominate in the division and with an ageing Garde Champetre expected to run Sizing will still have a decent weight

World Hurdle - Big Bucks 4/7 a certainty, Cross Kennon each way at 66s

Gold Cup - goes against my early pre-determined belief but I think 9/1 each way Grand Crus is value

One I like for the bumper but haven't backed yet (totesport haven't got a book open) is Sword Of Honour - generally 20-1 but you can get 31 on Betfair. 1 run, 1 win for this Coolmoore owned son of Montjeu - very impressive he was too on debut.

I'll be there, probably Tuesday. maybe another day if I can afford it.

I've done a few but mostly multiples. do you want them as it doesn't really fit the set up.

otherwise don't grandouet at 17 and again at 8 on betfair. not sure what dates tho.

I had to change my policy and cant get get involved early, in the past i always liked a dabble, but with this APPRAISE system i cant get involved ante post now. My ratings depend on race make up and conditions on the day so in the words of the DRAGONS "i'm out" but good luck to those trying to make a killing. There are so many good judges on here i'm sure some will get great value.

Problem is what are the odds of the horse running in the selected race or even turning up at all. I've just gone for the one as it looks decent value and hope it turns up. Haven't actually backed it as I don't have money to risk on horses.
