HD, I seriously hope that's really a picture of you. Bent is more prolific than Defoe or Welbeck; Johnson has scored more than Young too: far more dangerous, IMO. The CB pairing of Jones and Ferdy not looking to good, not against Newcastle tonight anyway!!

In the last three international competitions England qualified for, our downfall was not having like-for-like backup for Wayne Rooney in the event that it was needed. Clearly no-one else is as naturally gifted as him, but in Danny Graham we finally have an English Premier League player in his mould. Surprise surprise, the penalty bottling prat that picked this squad has ignored Graham altogether and looks for all the world to be pinning our hopes on Rooney.
Rooney is one thing but how the **** did Fraizer Campbell get a call up ahead of the likes of Graham and even Defoe?

My updated team. It's 4312 with CDM, LCM, RCM, CAM.. not 41212. I thought this through and came to the conclusion that I'd go with the two CB's that played against Spain. Cole for me is past it , next best Baines I go with. Richards is better than Walker in defence and attack imo. As for the midfield, I went with the best 2 passers and Parker. In that formation for me I like a player that can hit long shots, get into the box but also defend..Lampard was the best option for me. And then Sturridge is having a great season and Bent has pace to burn, I feel would complement Sturridge. I feel it's tight defensively with the 2 CM's and CDM and box to box Lampard. And decent in attack and a team that will have the luxury of being able to play possession game or fast counters in the same formation whilst staying solid defensively
Thats actually quite a defensive formation though. For a country of England's stature I would prefer to see something a little more attacking. Personally I have always preferred Gerrard to Lampard but I'd still like to have wide players in the team. Maybe a 4-2-3-1 might work a little better -----------------Hart----------------- Richards---Jagielka---Lescott----Baines -------------Parker--Carrick----------- Walcott--------Gerrard------Young/Lennon -----------Rooney/Bent/Sturridge-------- I mean its out there for criticism because of the players used but England Midfield has always been the best part of the team so I think maximising that has always been the way forward. And then theres a few players coming through the ranks (ie. Rodwell and Cleverly) that can also just step straight in rather than changing the formation dependant on whose available
I ****ing hate those people. Anyway, a lot of people snubbing Glen Johnson despite what has been his best season at Liverpool and for several years. Of course, Richards is playing well, and Walker has shown glimpses this year also. Right back will be the area of contention. Richards adds more defensively than either - he's better in the air, but Johnson is very rarely beaten on the ground. All three have ample pace. Johnson is by lightyears the best on the ball, and can cover left back also, and play as a wing-back. Walker was pretty poor when forced to adapt against Stevenage and I think he'd be found out at the Euros - maybe next World Cup though, for sure. Baines is not having a brilliant season, so I'd reluctantly play Cole. I think Gerrard will captain. So: ------------------------Hart------------------ Johnson----Cahill----Lescott----Cole --------------Parker-----Barry------------ Johnson--------Gerrard (c)--------Young ----------------------Bent-------------------- -Unleash Gerrard in a free role, Lennon, Young and Bent would benefit hugely from his passing range. -Bent plays off the shoulder, like Torres did (at Liverpool). It didn't work too badly. -Barry is questionable, but will Wilshere be fit? He does a fair job at keeping things ticking over. -I think Terry will play over one of the two centre-backs listed. -Bench of: Carson, Jagielka, Richards, Lampard, Lennon, Sturridge, Carroll -Carroll has a strong chance of inclusion if he continues to pick up form - I've gone with quick players - Bent and Sturridge, but if England were closing out a win or needed an outlet to get a goal, throwing Carroll on would shake things up. Defenders have to want a battle to play him. If not Carroll, a target-man like... Crouch?
