Midfielder Lee Cattermole admitted he was delighted for James McClean after the Irishman grabbed a goal in only his second top-flight start. McClean scored Sunderland's second goal in the 4-1 victory over Wigan at the DW Stadium on Tuesday night, just 48 hours after making his full Barclays Premier League debut. The pacy winger was a thorn in the side of the Latics throughout the game and his endeavour was rewarded with a second half goal, after his initial header was saved he found the back of the net with the rebound. McClean, 22, only joined Sunderland in the summer from Derry City and has made rapid progress since making the move across the Irish Sea. Team mate Cattermole told safc.com: "James McClean was the star on the night and I'm really pleased for him. He took his chance well. "We're spreading the goals across the team and that was the message from the manager when he came in. "He wanted us to start getting balls in across the box and show that desire to go and score a goal. We've got players who can do that and it's all just falling into place nicely now." That final sentence says it all for me the difference between MON and Bruce. MON wants to win, Bruce didn't want to lose.
Spot on mate. I've just written on another thread, if Bent or Gyan didn't score last season it was bordering on a disaster because nobody else would. Today, if Bendtner doesn't score, it hardly matters. This is much more positive.
And he looks mean as fook..................i love him..... Attitude , ability,......l/w class.....................................pissed now so please excuse.
I'm on the wagon for a few days mate. Give my liver a chance to recover. But hopefully I washed out some of those lingering kidney stones.
I know it's early days, but he does remind me a hell of a lot of Dennis Tueart with his swashbuckling style of play..
Dennis wasn't afraid to stand up for himself either. I recall one match a defender was kicking chunks out of him every chance he got. Dennis kept skinning him, but finally had enough and took a swing at the ball missed and connected with the defenders 3 piece. Then stood there hands on hips looking all innocent.
Too true. Tueart's the only man I ever saw to go into a 50-50 head-on with Danny McGrain and get to his feet first. That didn't happen often. (For those too young to know the name, McGrain played for Celtic and Scotland and was one of the all-time great RBs. Not just in Britain - he was selected for a Rest of the World team, too. When Brazil played Scotland they thought they'd test him. After 20 minutes, they gave up and switched play to the other side for the rest of the game).
Names we have heard of mate.....easy to forget we havn't all seen all thee players play...unfortunatelly//
