Waiting for the match to start on Sky, they are showing shots of Syd James park, looking at the roof on one of the stands, and all around the ground, are ads for sports direct, I for one would be gutted if our stadium was named different, and just becoming an advertising hording. there seems to be a lack of respect, towards the history, the area and the fans of the club, glad its not happening to me.
I wouldnt be bothered if someone bought the naming rights for our stadium. We've only been there about 15 years so there isnt that much history associated with the place. And "The Stadium of Light" isnt exactly the greatest name for a football ground. The financial benefits are also very good, especially when you think about the Financial Fair Play rules coming into force. I for one wouldnt be that bothered. So long as it isnt the ****ing tombola stadium
If we get sponsored i hope its by a light bulb company such as 'Philips', maybe it could be the 'Philips stadium of light'
Just for money would you endorse `THE TAMPAX ARENA`? I and many Sunderland folks have their names, and memorials on the walls of the stadium of light, and the name is in honour of the pitmen who gave their lives, down the pits, may not be important to you, but it is to me and my family.
I would be happy if a company called The Wearmouth Stadium bought our naming rights, because in my opinion, that is what it should have been called in the first place..
To birng success to the club I love yes. the SoL isnt the same as Roker Park, where most of our history was made. The SoL is going to be our home for the future and if we want to be sucessful, selling the naming rights to the stadium will become a very feasable option. We've currently got the Strongbow stand. Used to have the Metro Radio Stand. Is that an insult? I for one couldnt give a tuppence what the stadium is called if it bring sucess to the red and white shirt. I understand your point, but the memorial bricks will still be there, and so will the memory of the pitmen and the miners and everyone else. The same arguments were used when shirt sponsorship first started, but we now accept that as the norm and it brings vital income to a team. The name of the stadium (especially the new grounds) isnt as important as the red and white shirt, and the sucess of the team.
A really couldn't give a toss what its called. If it brings finance into the club and it benefits all of us so be it.
