about Nicky Maynard...? Now I am no great supporter of our current chairman however I read on here that many now believe that Nicky decided last summer that he was going to run his contract down presumably, as there was no suitable Premier League club in for him at the time... So, by that logic, unless SAF or Mancini came in for him, he wasn't interested in leaving as amply demonstated by is refusal to probably TRIPLE his current salary at Leicester - this being so.... HOW CAN THIS POSSIBLY BE THE FAULT OF THE BOARD...??? They couldn't force him out and were frankly, powerless to do anything about it plus, despite not having had a stellar season so far, he is STILL our top scorer and we would be deep in the mire without the goals he HAS scored ...
Agree Prem. I don't think the board are to blame, in fact I think there is no right nor wrong in what Maynard or the board has done. I would add to that....there is no point what so ever to take less than 2 Mil for him as he may well be the difference in staying up or going down........that's worth the money alone.
In hindsight taking the £6m would have probably been the best thing to do. The big question now is how much do we want for him to go - arguably if £1m is the only offer we may be better keeping Nicky and hope that his goals retain our Championship status - relegation would cost us far more than £1m
I think the club would have took the 6/7 million or whatever daft figure sven offered. The decision was Nicky's he wants the premier league and decided (correctly by the look of it) Leicster were not going to make it so he's holding on. Curious to see how this pans out with most of the clubs linked with Nicky starting to sign other strikers. What happens if no bids are accepted and terms with Nicky not agreed?? Unlikely i know but will Maynard then sign at the end of jan or bugger off in may with a large signing on fee!
Nicky is only thinking of Nicky right now phat. Sadly it's the way footballers brains are programmed these days and greed supercedes any commitment to the CLUB. Interesting question you bring up in what if nobody comes for Nicky during the window and he is forced to go it alone in the summer? Could get interesting over the next while - what do you think? P.S. Were the crowd really on Nicky's back last night?
If this is true and NM made it known last summer that he wasn't ever going to ever sign a new contract then I question whether the board made his name available to all and sundry saying he was available at the time, because it seems to me they didn't.....?
Lot of dreamers on the board at AG angelic who live in a different world. Do they really believe that every good player that comes to AG has a lifetime dream to play for us for life? Get real Sexstone.
Didnt make it last night still tucked up with man flu! But was at cov last week and yea nicky got plenty of stick, which is understandable seeing as he was quoted to say he is looking for a bigger club!! At the end of the day if i put myself in nickys position, now im a manager of a well known retailer if one of my rivals offered me more money more prestige more glamour for doing the same job i do today am i really going to say no im staying put because my current employer gave me the chance in first place. No chance, much as i think this has been handled poorly i dont blame Nicky for wanting to further his career (would he have signed by now if we were top off the league??) I dont blame the board because until now they havent done anything i blame that belgian prat Bosman!!
Agree Mike. A definite removal from reality. Mind you, looking at some of the quotes that Sexstone came out with when they finallly saw the light and sacked Millen were totally cringeworthy and very unprofessional.
Once again, people need to realise that the ONLY permanent part of any football club are the supporters. Directors, managers and players all come and go, WE are the only ones who are fixtures. This is the nature of the game and this much aired loyalty to the club issue is vastly overrated cos at the end of the day it is just a job, allbeit one that is extremely enjoyable and the envy of most (and therein lies the problem I think). The PRIMARY requirement of any player representing us is to perform to the best of their ability. Of course some players will form a permanent attachment to the club, Walshy for instance was everything about the club and more recently, Scotty rightly became a fans favourite, IS Mr Bristol City and his personality makes him a fine ambassador and I guess he will be associated with the club for ever... Phatty is spot on, each and every one of us does our job for our current employer to the best of our ability (in theory) and if this brings recognition and a demand for your services from others willing to give better terms, then I question anyone who tells me that they turned down the opportunity in loyalty to their current employer (and yes, there will always be the exception that proves the rule).
