I say he must have some major dirt on David Gill.
Only kidding, he did ok against Chelsea. But we can't really rely on him.

Edited it for you. See, I can be useful at times... ;)

I think he's a decent squad player, better than the second string midfielders for many of our rivals. But agree with Jip - we can't rely on him in big matches. If we have him and Fletcher and poss Scholesy as backups for Anderson + AN Other we would have a pretty solid midfield squad for next season.

I'd hoped Carrick was going to make way in the summer and let his spot be taken by Gibson, Cleverly or an as yet unsigned player.

That's what I think we need, just 1 top midfielder (and a keeper of course). We've got more than enough quality at centre-half, full-back, on the wings and up front.

I've always admired Carrick. But, this season he hasn't really impressed us. If you guys remember last season, we had Tevez and Ronaldo. With those two consistent players on the pitch, Carrick adapted to their playing style. Who's Carrick going to provide the ball to now? We cannot rely on Nani each game, SAF has realised that he needs to add a winger and creative midfielder to our squad.

    Mad? Me? Not overly.

Gibson wont improve without regular first team football. You can see that fear of making mistakes is crippling his confidence. Despite his age, he hasn't had a proper run of games yet. What's been the point of keeping him, loaning him out and developing him all these years if he can't have a run of games to settle and find some good form?

He looked much improved against Marseille (despite making way for Scholes when it should have been Carrick) and he came on and played a lovely pass to Berba in the lead up to the fourth goal against Wigan.

Give Gibson 2 full seasons and he'll still be useless.

I tend to agree. He has looked better recently, and I'm not as despairing when I see his name on the team sheet as I once was.

Carrick is into his 3rd season of indifferent performances and has too much experience and regular outings to excuse it, in my opinion. Even if Gibson didn't improve I don't see how he could be any worse and at least we'd all be able to make a more informed decision.

    Gibson wants to leave.
    Scholes wants to retire
    Hargo is a cripple

And people want Carrick out to?

Why not sell Anderson and Fletcher why we are at it

Love carrick. Delighted he's staying. He's our only defense minded midfielder. Passing may have gone down hill, but his positional sense saves us goals (interceptions etc). Obviously wont start all the time, but I think hes very reliable.

yep Gibson can become worse. Thats a scary thing, hes defensively shocking. He cant tackle and shoots every time he gets a chance.

Maybe another winger as well, although Diouf can play on the wings and has been doing alright for Blackburn, so he could be a decent backup to Valencia, Nani and Park if Giggsy retires.

Giggs has signed a new deal swarbs. Lets not think to far ahead. Ferguson will make changes as he deems fit just let him do the job. Why can't Utd fans trust our manager ffs. I am not blaming you here but its sickening the amount of fans not trusting ferguson. They pin it on the Glazers and make up a load of shocking drivel. Its annoying. If our manager says he is happy and believes in the sqaud who the **** are these supposed clowns to say otherwise?

No one's criticising SAF on this thread. We're just saying what we think the team needs. Part of the joy of being fans!

Giggsy may have signed a new deal, but if he gets injured or his form drops like Neville's did last season he could easily retire with just a few weeks notice. I'm not saying we have to get a new winger, but one could be useful given how much we've struggled for penetration this season with Valencia and Park out.
