Darlo vs Toon 046.jpg Seems to be exchanging words with one of the Darlo players and I suppose there's more chance of him speaking English than there is of the Darlo player speaking French.

The same article appeared in The Times this morning (without the attention seeking headline style of the The Sun) and it simply suggests that Ben Arfa wants to get back on the pitch and play as much as possible and thinks that Newcastle should be able to kick on and finish better than 7th with the players in the squad.

The Times made the situation sound far better and dispelled all thoughts that Ben Arfa was unhappy.

The Chronicle paints a similar picture as the Time, he's frustrated and just wants to play:

inShare.0 HATEM BEN ARFA insists that he will continue to play the “waiting game” when it comes to getting his shot at first team recognition with Newcastle United.

Ben Arfa admits he is “sad” not to be on the pitch yet is hoping that 2012 brings more first team chances for him.

He said: “I would like to be part of it.

“The most important thing is that I give everything for the team when I’m on the pitch, to do my best to help the team.

“When I came on, even when I’ve only got five to ten minutes on the pitch, I need to show what I can do.

“I need to be decisive for the team when I can, when I’ve got an opportunity.”

Ben Arfa though does not want his personal disappointment to seep into the dressing room and cause any unrest.

He said: “Inside I’m sad not to be on the pitch.

“I’m trying not to share my sadness with other people.

“Obviously I would rather be on the pitch and not being on the pitch makes me a bit upset.”

Ben Arfa damaged his ankle during a pre-season friendly against Kansas City back in July.

And admits it has been a slow road back to recovery.

Yet he insists he is now 100% fit.

He said: “I knew at the start that it would take time, but it has been four months now and I feel that now I’m ready, I’m completely fit.

“And I feel like I’m able and ready to play more on the pitch than I have done so far.”

Cant really see him saying this in an interview with a national newspaper.

When Ba leaves it will be the telling point of how Pardew views Ben Arfa, if he starts Shola instead of him then I can imagine he wont get many games this season. I would love to see Best and Ben Arfa start upfront.

Kind of sensationalist journalism you expect from the red tops though.

The most irritating thing for me is that we have the players with the ability to pass the ball, and when we do get it down and play we look great.

So why all the stupid high balls every time we need a goal??

Cabaye seems content with our style of play.

Although occasionally we still can't get the long ball out of our heads I think the majority of the time we play good football. Remember against Liverpool where we had that spell in possession where we strung I think 32 passes together until they had to foul us to get the ball back.

He is being eased back. It's only in the last 3 - 4 games that starting him would have been an option.

He is a footballer and likes to play football. Pardew is a manager and is managing his resources. Non-story

There's an extended interview with Ben Arfa in today's chronicle, includes him saying he'd like the #9. Shame I can't get the chronicle here though <wah>

hmmm....I wonder If Martin O'Neill is keeping track of this. HBA playing alongside Sessegnon would be pretty mouthwatering <whistle>

Our football hasn't been great since we went down, we're a very functional team in that we just get the job done (or don't, as has been the case recently). Hughton and Pardew weren't exactly renowned for their attacking nous in their playing days.

Even when we were battering teams in the Championship it was pretty direct and wing based. Last season things improved but until we have two decent full backs who allow the wide players in front of them to attack more I can't see things changing much. With Raylor and Simpson the wingers have to constantly track back which means there's no width and the middle of the pitch is crowded, so Tiote and Cabaye have their work cut out even getting near the ball and have to give it back to the defenders if the do gain possession. Who just smack it up to Ba or Best.

Marveaux, Cabaye, HBA, Tiote, Jonas and even Obertan are being wasted in this rigid four four two with no fluidity at the expense of a cautious, defensive approach because of the full backs.
