Fulham, City, Wolves, Norwich and Spurs so far this season. That's quite impressive - Reina's only one short of being responsible for a third of the goals you have conceded this season. <ok>

All that suggests is our back 4 are ****ing awesome <ok>

It's been a funny season for keepers - the new boys (clearly except De Gea) like Vorm and Krul are doing the business and the more experienced like Reina and Cech are having a bit of **** one!

Ran into Skrtel when Hunt cut the ball back. That one was probably mainly Skrtel's fault, but any keeper should be aware enough to avoid his own players in the box.

Awesome enough to have conceded one more goal than our back take-your-pick-from-whoever's-fit thus far this season.

True, but then Vorm and Krul do have decent experience. It's almost a good thing all the top club's keepers are playing quite badly - keeps it nice and open at the top - imagine how far ahead City and Utd would be now if our keepers and defence had been in top form.

We gifted you the defensive lead tonight <grr>

It's certainly good for entertainment. Not buying the 'how far ahead City and Utd would be' bullshit though <laugh>

Well you say that, but how many more points would you really have? You'd have beaten Blackburn, and that's about it. The only other game you lost was City, but that wasn't purely down to bad defending/keeping. And away from home you've pretty much been on top form.

Same can be said for City really.

P.S, You've still got to play City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs away. Plenty of time for you to concede more...

Nah, you just gave it us back after we gifted it you against City! ;)

Fair enough. I'm just thinking about the lapses against Blackburn and Stoke - effectively cost us five points - not to mention all the soft goals in the CL. Similarly with City's errors against Sunderland and Liverpool. Still, guess we can "what if" about pretty much anything - new keeper plus all defenders injured = conceding lots of goals! I'm quite impressed our defence has been as tight as it has thus far in the league, City and Blackburn games aside of course. The last time we had CMs in defence was 2009 and we lost 3-0 to Fulham!!

That's been our problem all season. Absolutely dominating most games with 20+ shots, but we've been less clinical than Bolton FFS! Badly need a fox in the box - the Fowler mould would be good <ok>

    My synopsis of last night.

Downing should have scored before city did. That was a shocking miss. It had nothing to do with Hart being good. It was plain poor, as he was all match.

This, followed by a shocker by Pepe to give them the lead. We vwere then right back in the match, but couldn't convert our dominance into goals. Good header to put them two up. At half time, despite being 2 - 0 up, I agreed with the pundits, who called the performances even at that stage.

Downing and Adam had shockers, and should have been replaced at half time with Bellamy and Gerrard. In my opinion, Kenny waited too long.

In the end, they were probably good for three points, but it definitely wasn't a 3 niller. Must do better. I'm really not sure about Downing, and Carroll should not play up front on his own. Must do better.

£ ahead of united though. Come on The Toon <ok>

    My synopsis of last night.

Liverpool, utter crap, new signings look lost
    City, better team

3-0 was a hash score, but it show the difference between the 2

When Pepe Reina did his ghost trick,Liverpool had grabbed the bit in midfield and were starting to dominate but the goal allowed us to change tactics and drop off and play similar to a lot of last year and stay much closer to the defence to provide a blanket. The second goal was a second poorly defended set piece, seconds earlier a Kompany free header should have had the alarm bells ringing but no heed was taken and we weren't marked tight enough.
While I see many slagging Carroll off,the service to him was dire and to play him on his own against such a good defender as Kompany is was always asking a lot of him.Is he not crying out to be played in a Toshack role with a clever foil who can play off him(Defoe?) but the supply of floaty crosses from Downing are just too simple to defend against and Liverpool were far more of a threat after the belated introduction of Bellamy and Gerrard. While positive comments have been made for Henderson for his pass to set up Downing,he drifts in the game too much for me,similar to Adam Johnson does for City whenever he starts games.
Spearing was effective in his sitting role and was simple and precise in his passing which is all you ask of him
Charlie Adam was awful, looks out of his depth
Strange decision for me was to not play Suarez,he could have started his ban from today, when you were playing City in their worst form of the season.I think you missed a trick there

The opinions of a man who's probably watched us play max 3 times this season. Why judge us on a game against the league leaders?
