Downing is older and has been disappointing, his confidence is knocked but we know he's a decent player; it's a new team and a new system. Patience.

Yes I wish we didn't sell Mandy for 35m Jose was a signing I was disappointed with but Ryan Taylor has done fantastically well. Jose had a shocker today though
With young players, it can take a while to settle into a new team, trying to fit in to a new system of play, gaining the respect of the already established members of the squad, new style of players, team mates not knowing your strenghs. There are lots of reasons, but to write him off before he even gets a run of games is a tad premature. Give the lad a chance...
I'd say Downing. Carroll's got age, if not talent, on his side. Downing is just average and always has been.
We're not mid table though are we last time I looked, we're 3 points off fourth with a totally rebuilt team, a new system and started today without possibly our best 4 players. Carroll, isn't getting the service....why play someone like him without putting the ball into the place that he can do damage? I was frustrated today....but not at Carroll; unless you expect him to overlap Johnson/Downing smash over the cross and leg into the box to nod it in???
Big arry wanted him for 25 million, we only paid 10 million more than that, and it was Chelsea's cash anyway. I think he will come good, I said the same when Skrtel and Lucas where playing ****e, I see something in him, time will tell. just needs one to go in of his ar$e atm....
+1, I would have been disappointed with a genuine thread of all his signings but at least it would have been balanced, this is just poor IMO
