Leeds only got 10k attendances, preRevie. No history, no fans

Yes. Manchester doesn't have its own police force and neither does Leeds (although Leeds is a far bigger and more important city, so it probably should have). So it's pretty hard to compare them unless you use the wider metropolitan areas' data. :)

Nah, 20-25k. And do the Revie and after days not count? It was only then when football fans were proper supporters anyway, before then, they would go watch any team that were doing well and there wasn't even an idea of fanatical rivalry/loyalty.

Yeah maybe because we don't spend £35m+ plus every transfer window....and Man U fans have the cheek to go on about City and their transfer antics.

Sheff U, Col U, Man U, Leeds U. 'U' is an abbreviation for 'United' which I hear all the time. And obviously people are going to abbreviate 'Manchester', 'Colchester', 'Sheffield' etc. as well. Have been doing since well before 1958. So **** off with your sanctimonious Munich-obsessed rubbish, it just serves to prove how excessively pious you get about that 50+ year old disaster to this day.

'Man U Man U went on an aeroplane', yeah I know the chant. But it hardly means people can't use a standard abbreviation of your name which isn't the odious 'United'.

So you're on slippery ice with that argument, Alan.

If that was the case, why did a 500k town only get gates of 13k in the early 60s?

Saying "ManUre" has nothing to do with Munich, and I hope no-one would be stupid enough to bring up anything from either of our club's pasts. I'll leave it at that.

Anyway ManUre fans - we're entitled to be proud of beating our biggest rivals despite being 2 leagues below at the time. That's what makes it special.

For two seasons. Hardly represents the typical football attendance of Leeds United pre-Revie. Why? Because people were fickle, we were **** and we looked like we were going nowhere having been relegated after a four year spell in the top flight.

I'm not denying we were firmly a rugby city before John Charles (and then Don Revie) turned up, nor that we were a bunch of also-rans. We used to be nicknamed 'the mugs' and 'the muckers' on account of us going nowhere. But it wasn't like today where we have a fanbase who'd love to go to every game but can only get to a certain amount because of our shameful pricing.

Leeds has had a massive shift from rugby to football since those days. Even recently when the Rhinos have been winning everything possible and United have been struggling in the second and third divisions with extortionate ticket prices, we've had higher crowds and more interest. Leeds used to have seven rugby clubs. Now it has three. By contrast there are four football clubs above amateur level. It depends where you go in the city, but in general, football is the preferred sport (not that all football fans in the city are Leeds fans by any means.)

I don't think Leeds is more of a rugby city than Manchester to be honest. If one of the Manc rugby teams had had comparative success to the Rhinos, you'd see the same sort of support levels for rugby in the city.
