I thought his tackling was much improved tonight - especially that important one at the end to deny Odemwingie (the one where Ode got annoyed afterwards)

Defoe's performance sums him up for me: might as well play with 10 men for his general contribution but does the business with the goal. Still think he is an impact sub rather than a starter though.

I tell you something, MON has (as many predicted) completely transformed Sunderland. So glad we played them before he'd settled in. They've got Chelsea next. My money's on AT LEAST a draw, hopefully a sunderland win...
So: first, great win--I'm just hoping Sandro, Parker and Gallas are okay. Second, poor play at the end. I understand the injuries had a big impact, but it seemed to me tactics were the bigger problem. When Spurs wanted to take the ball and pass it around, everything seemed to go well. But for some reason often enough they were just booting it down the field, West Brom got it back and they were in trouble. It's one thing when you're in trouble near the goal, but they were doing it when they had plenty of time. Poor effort at killing the game off. Also: VdV's effort was great to see. Ade's effort continues to be a pleasant surprise. Modric also worked very hard. Excellent game for A-E, I thought. I don't like Bassong at CB. Defoe's goal was either brilliant, lucky, or a combination of the two, and I'd vote for the latter. Kranjcar had a poor game, but I'd give him time. He hasn't played much, and looked very composed against Man U.

We're not grinding them out, we're making the fans a gibbering wreck by not putting our chances way! Klinsmann did pretty well with this as Germany coach, less so as Bayern coach.
I'd like to know what tactic you would suggest in such circumstances, rarely did they have one player near the centre circle, I'm afraid its just patience and keep plugging away. i was critical of the final ball in the 1st half, but not so sure now, what you need is two strikers with exceptional movement, not just one and the other who follows him round like a sheep. If Ade goes to one post, JD then does the same, makes the final ball near impossible, why this basic schoolboy rule of one goes near post, one goes far has not been picked up yet is amazing.
