The State did not heat the case before, so it wasn't double jeopardy. I don't think this compromises that in any way. The previous trial was a private prosecution.- But in principle, yes. I don't like the idea of it.
With the advances in DNA profiling and other investigation techniques, if the evidence is still there, why not re-examine the case. Fuck letting people like that get away with it and live their lives as if nothing happened.

Scientists recovered the material using advanced techniques which were not available to the original case scientists. This is EVIDENCE not 'evidence'.
I appreciate what Ciaran is saying. There were traces of nitro on 5 of the Birmingham 6. They were going to the funeral of an IRA "terrorist". They confessed. This was all presented as 'evidence' at their trial.
