The State did not heat the case before, so it wasn't double jeopardy. I don't think this compromises that in any way. The previous trial was a private prosecution.- But in principle, yes. I don't like the idea of it.
With the advances in DNA profiling and other investigation techniques, if the evidence is still there, why not re-examine the case. Fuck letting people like that get away with it and live their lives as if nothing happened.
The material - bloodstains, clothing fibres and a single hair belonging to the teenager - were recovered from the clothes of the suspects which had been seized in 1993. Scientists recovered the material using advanced techniques which were not available to the original case scientists. This is EVIDENCE not 'evidence'.
I appreciate what Ciaran is saying. There were traces of nitro on 5 of the Birmingham 6. They were going to the funeral of an IRA "terrorist". They confessed. This was all presented as 'evidence' at their trial.

My point was that nothing came up as a result, which substantiated my defence of him to someone who was asserting that he was invloved in a crime of that nature.
