Seriously, who is our Operations Manager? Must be the biggest imbecile alive? The choice to evacuate the North Upper, moments before Kick-Off in the second half, STUPID. When I arrived at least an hour before kick-off, there was no power in the North Upper. Why didn't they make the decision then to close it down, and move fans, before it got crowded? Can understand why there was a massive reluctance to leave, especially as we had kicked-off, and people didn't want to miss the action.
I think you have to have sympathy with the people making the decisions - apparently, power went at 2.20ish - so you can imagine the logistical nightmare it would have been to cascade the necessary to Stewards etc. and also making the decision in the first place - natural reaction would hav e been that it would have been fixable. Looking from afar, i think the club needs a pat on the back keeping the game going. A tricky situation, full of all sorts of H&S issues- dealt with in a way that was not perfect, but these things are far from easy for those concerned in the heat of the moment.
I was in the north west quadrant and heard the anouncement loud and clear as soon as the first half finished...the stand was singing "we shall not be moved".
And we didnt.....we`re charlton Athletic and we`ll stand where we want.....it was a very enjoyable stand off with the police and ...we won
they tried to get us to leave @ half time AFTER the lights were back on! The police and stewards could see there was no point in trying to get people to move so gave up on us
AH was there, swinging his shirt above his head whilst organising another menacing chorus of ''we shall not be moved''. Shockin, juss shockin.
I sit in North H, I will always sit in North H, I will not be moved to East or West! I sit in North H The Bovril in E or W does not interest me........ I sit in North H !
Excellent explanation of the situation on the OS - http://www.cafc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10267~2563993,00.html - pity that not a fraction of that explanation was available on Saturday.
