DI Canary is on the case everyone. I will clear this trivial incident up once and for all. I don't know why everyone is saying they cannot see what happened in the clip. It looks quite straight forwards to me.

1.) Whilst running back Barton has swung an arm at Whitbread.

2.) His momentum means he then runs into the path of Johnson and a slight tangle of legs causes Barton to stumble slightly.

3.) Barton obviously thinks Johnson has tripped him on purpose when in actual fact he could not get out of the way.

4.) Words are exchanged and then Barton charges his shoulder into Johnson.

5.) Not content with that Barton gets into Johnson's face and pushes his head forwards.

6.) Johnson reacts like most would by backing off so as not to get properly laid out!

There are two grey areas that the clip fail to resolve -
A.) In the initial swinging arm incident that Barton lashes out at Whitbread does his follow through actually catch Johnson in the face?
B.) Nobody knows what was said in the heat of the moment!

For some referees if they have seen incident 1 this could be a straight red card if there was meaningful intent. Most would give a yellow.

Incident 4 could be seen as confrontational behaviour and as he has lashed out is in contravention to the laws of the game! Some refs would give a straight red if they deemed there was a clear movement towards the opposition player. I would suggest most refs would interpret that as nothing more than standing up for themselves and may be inclined to let it pass. Some refs would book both players when they stand toe to toe and I still fail to see why they do!

Incident 5 shows intent to cause serious harm to an opposition player. Whether the contact was minimal or not it is a red card offence.

In summary I would deem Barton's actions as deserving a straight red. A referee sticking to the laws of the game could interpret all three of his actions as deserving a red card.

Case concluded - I thank you! :police:

That is the funniest thing I have heard in all this debate!

It doesn't matter if the referee himself hasn't seen it if one of the other three officials has!

Then why did play continue for a further 13 seconds after the alleged incident.
If the ref or any of his assistants had seen it , he would of stopped the game there & then.
Especially as QPR were in possession.
Play didn't stop until Barton was scythed down yet again.

There were 7 charges and we were guilty of 2, if we bought him illegally he wouldn't be aloud to play anymore, tbh it was so long ago i cant remember the facts but it was something like lying about the price etc

No, because we weren't guilty, everyone just assumed we were and wanted us to get a points deduction, but it turns out what we were guilty for was not as serious as what would have been necessary for a deduction.

edit: tbf col, it was mainly the Swansea pricks that wanted us to get a points deduction, they hate us a lot.

Why are we even talking about this?!

Sid its because quite perversely Norwich are 'bad' winners. Too much gloating around here about scraping a win against 10 men.

Plenty of the season left yet. It's not over to the fat grunt holt sings.

I wish Norwich every possible calamity and that lambert recovers some of his dignity, his actions today are below what I expected of him as he's a good manager but hasnt come out of this very well

i know, but understandable, neither of us can really expect to get in before bigger teams, and the Chelsea/Arsenal matches were pretty good to neutrals i guess

Interesting take on it (Barton) in tomorrow's Telegraph.

"The question remained why the QPR captain’s head was so close to Johnson’s in the first place. “He could have avoided that,” granted Warnock, “but it doesn’t warrant the reaction from Johnson. If it was the other way round, I don’t think Joey would have gone down. Joey’s not daft enough to head-butt somebody with every camera in the country on him.”
One problem with that. Joey Barton is exactly that daft. Through nature or upbringing, combat comes unthinkingly to him. In the face of confrontation, he is conditioned never to back down. When Johnson issued the challenge to him, Barton’s bestial pride prevented him from walking away.

Time you learned some lessons, JB <ok>

He's not that daft in a normal state of mind, he just has anger problems which aren't necessarily his fault, he just needs to learn to control them. Anyway, its about to come on motd so then we should be able to see if he actually makes contact or if it was just for intent. (which is what it was put down as by the referee)

They just showed a closer view, in my opinion, not a red card. So do most of twitter, and i'm not saying twitter is reliable or whatever but there was no violent contact. Bullshit.
