You can disregard set pieces in relation to our strikers though. We're a bunch of pygmies so even if one of them would be a threat from set pieces they'd stick 2 defenders on him and crowd him out.
That's 16 shots in this game and 14 shots in the last game and we scored in neither. We've outplayed the opposition in the last three games, yet lost all three, it's getting really ****ing irritating now.
That's how football is sometimes, but like NB said in is post match interview with Burnsey he believes it will come good. I actually agee with him, I have played to a reasonable level, and you get periods like this, whereby you play well but cannot get the win. Better this happens now, and get it out of our system, which I feel will come good at the right time for the run in.
And neither of the two teams we've lost two are anything brilliant which makes it all the more fustrating!
Even since NP's time we seem to be poor at set pieces, I would have hoped this would have improved under NB, which in time may happen. On whether players are big or not, heading is an art, and they do not have to be 6 foot plus, It about time of the run and the execution. I am old enough to remember Billy Wilkinson who was not that tall, but he could head a ball and be in the right place at the right time.
A wise man once said '' Only an idiot would keep doing the same thing and expect to get a different result'' or words to that effect. Our goal scoring record for the past two seasons reflects relegation form. Not good enough let's see if Billy Whitehurst and Keith Edwards will come out of retirement they couldn't be any worse!! Seriously our front line needs changing, selling, shooting (mind you don't let any of these pick up the rifle, they'll miss)
You're forgetting every other game we've lost this season. As others have said, only Leeds have actually outplayed us this season, and we still missed a bucket load of chances against them. It's ridiculous that no one in the entire team can score a goal. We have a massive chance of promotion this yeasr because we are one of the best teams, but we're throwing the chance away by losing so many stupid games like this. What makes it even more frustrating is that every City fan in the ground knew from the minute they scored that we would lose 1-0, and NB probably did too, but could do nothing about it.
I went to Leeds and if that's the only game we were outplayed then we're doing better than I thought. We were the better team on the night for my money and if the 2 keepers had swapped sides I maintain we'd have won.
That's what I mean, we dominate every game we play and yet we still can't ****ing score. We have to sign a new striker this month, and not just one for cover as AP seemed to suggest on Humberside. Cover isn't going to finish chances.
It might be, but if the opposition coaches match our coaches then their markers will be just as good as they are at timing and it comes back to the size. A midget with good timing is only going to work at set pieces if there are other threats in the team, otherwise they're identified as the threat and marked accordingly.
Remain Calm All Is Well. Dont panic folks. Many are wobbling but the Tigers are still top 6. 61pts still to play for.
Then it is down to movement, players are difficult to mark when they are moving around trying to make space for themselves as well as team mates. There needs to be more variation on corners and set pieces, which hopefully NB is working on these aspects. Under NP we were very poor at goals from set pieces, and this seems to have continues thus far.
But the defenders only need to be coached as well as the attackers for movement to stop being key because they'll be moving with a height advantage. Height isn't key for an individual, but not having it anywhere in the team means you need lots of players with good movement and it doesn't matter about coaching because the opposition are doing that as well, at this level we're not going to get 7 players that are better at it than 7/10 opposition players so our threats become minimal and easily defended against. If we were Barca and could go out and buy who we wanted we could buy 10 kangaroo like players, but we're not and we can't. If you're attacking a corner look at how many players can be in the box. For us you'd have the keeper, a defender back on the halfway line, someone taking the corner, and someone in the space between the area and half way to smash home any rebounds (I'd have Koren there instead of taking them). That's 4 players not in the area, 7 can be. The opposition have got 10 outfield players to nullify those 7 players (if they reduce it by leaving a man up we'd espond by having an extra player held back). For some reason attacking teams always put a man on the keeper to have a foul given against them the second the corner is taken, but I'll ignore that reduction to 6 for now because we can't even do that properly. It's not difficult with a height advantage and the same level of training to defend against. Throw in a few big players alongside a few smaller ones who've been well trained and it's a damn site harder. Stick Elliott or Wilkinson into our team now though and there'll be two players with instructions to just get in their way with no attempt to get to the ball.
