Arsenal vs Sunderland, 5th March 2011, destination The Emirates Stadium, could be remembered as the season changing moment for Sunderland football club. Four defeats in a row have left the aspirations of checking in at Newcastle Airport to watch the lads on the fields of Europe against the likes of Juventus a mere FIFA 2011 moment. Once sitting proud in 6th place with a 7 point chasm between the chasing pack, we now are mixing it large with the midtable mediocrity club and our Championship winning neighbours. Saturday afternoon 2.30pm with the misty sky surrounding The Emirates clearing, Steve Bruce will deliver a pre-game speech to rival that of the legendary Al Pacino. In a tense dressing room Brucey will gather the troops and tell them "This is it! Now is your moment to show the world and the fans what you are made of, forget about the season so far it is in the past and we will win this game!" With the lads bursting with emotion and pride they march onto the battlefield with an eary presence, which even the Arsenal fans and players feel that something astonishing is about to unfold but they dont know what. As the referee puts his whistle to his mouth to start the encounter time stands still for a moment and the focus and ferocity in the eyes of the Sunderland players is noticed by Wenger and company as he realises he has no chance of winning this match and cue the Wearside magic. As the sun disappears behind The Emirates, almost afraid, 4.55pm approaches and the whistle is once again blown for one final time. Sixty thousand cockney jaws resting on the floor for what they have just witnessed, even the mega-phone of Abu Hamza is quiet as he stops his anti-western chants outside the ground as he feels change in the air. Saturday, 5th March 2011, 4.55pm - The date that dreams and aspirations are reignited and belief restored to the Red n White Army
****ing hell, i feel like getting me welding screen out of the garage and doing a bit of graft after that Brucey, well done marra, well written now get it sent to the Stadium pronto.
Many moons ago, when I was young, I served my apprenticeship at Richardsons and Westgarth in Hartlepool, I became a fitter turner. I did a lot of welding, I heard all about welders and their flashes, got the wrong idea so decided, go for it son. What a let down those flashes were, nothing like I expected.
Good post mate, well written - love the Abu Hamza chirp.... Think I will change my Prediction on Argus now.....
Wow, give it to Brucie to read to the lads! I hope that I can bring myself to read this after the match though... It will be a massacre. But it won't really be a surprise, Mignolet had this hattrick coming for a while now!
Mignolet isnt scared of Arsenal according to the skysports website, we are due a performance arent we? Surley the footballing gods have brought us back down to reality and are now willing to let us get our season going again ha
Am going for another Chelsea moment here and it will completely change our season around, Arsenal 0 - 3 Sunderland
Wow! 0-3 will do me. I think we need a result of some kind to start getting our season back on track and lift spirits on and off the pitch.
0-3, yeah, I kind of like the sound of it, but I don't really want the team resting back, know what I mean?
Heart says we can nick it 0-1 head says we are in for a very long afternoon would take a point now if offered. The lads will be out there to try and make amends for that shower of SH1ã3 against Everton so as with all things Sunderland it'll be what we least expect to happen that does.
Inbrucewelust---just concentrate on trying for your first top ten finish in 10 yeaqrs, yes TEN, instead of worrying about the big lads up the road. The last defining moment I remember of similar small proportions was when Monkeys Heeds Euro bus broke down at Leicester. At least this time Quinn could afford to get it all the way to London. Well done --- keep trying and if Niall doesn't take the huff --theres always next year....
Well done to all the fans making the journey down today, 2-1 victory to the lads. Hopefully Jordan can score a screamer and get his and our teams confidence back. Keiron for the winning goal.
If there was ever a good time to play Arsenal , it's now with all the players they are missing at the moment. Still , I think they'll beat you.
