Just noticed on Andrew Benson's twitter that the F1 season review is on New years eve at 1pm. More of a heads up than an actual topic
Thanks, I was wondering if they were going to do one again, last year it was the week after the last race or something.
According to Andy B he says the program is: Should be interesting, and at the very least a quick F1 fix for the winter
i bet if you go to germany its all about redbull and in spain and italy its all about alonso, there'e no escaping bias
I stopped watching after the Germany review. I expected there to be a bit more focus on McLaren, but this was ridiculous. It was so Mclaren-heavy to the point where I was looking forward to what they'd have to say about Valencia (as McLaren weren't so prominent there). Their Valencia "review" lasted all of twelve seconds, featuring one quote from Brundle's commentary. Their mini-feature on Ferrari was appalling. First they try to make Ferrari's win seem as tainted as possible, then they imply that both Alonso and Ferrari were poor this year. They didn't say anything about Massa, though I suspect they'll take the time to bash Massa later on the review when they discuss the collisions with Hamilton. What pissed me off the most was that they showed Perez's crash, but only as an additional excuse for Hamilton's poor qualifying (after suggesting that Massa had blocked Hamilton first Q3 lap).
You and me both mate. Every ten minutes it focused on a Mclaren driver, I would have thought Button and Hamilton were in the title fight against each other. The feature on Mercedes (Schumacher in Spa) that lasted 20 seconds was appalling, in a way I am glad the BBC F1 team has been dis-banded. Alonso stood out like a star this season, and there was no hint of that at all. Just Button and Hamilton for 59 minutes.
Finally watched it, was obviously a bit rushed at times which is understandable when you try to fit a season in an hour. Thats an average of a little over 3 minutes per race which really wasn't enough. I mostly enjoyed it, I'm a Mclaren fan so the Button and Hamilton running interview was fine by me, and after all they are the two big British drivers for a British program. The program missed out some stuff I would have put in but then again it had other stuff I had forgotten about and I enjoyed being reminded of. Its 2012 now, the end of F1 purely on the BBC, I wonder how much we'll really miss how good and fair the BBC were at doing it.
Good point about it not being controlled by the beeb anymore, maybe SKY can give a more balanced approach to F1's viewers... :L
I think the BBC is about as neutral as you'll see in any country that has f1 roots. Sky will happily blow the UK trumpet.
As a side note I just read The top 20 F1 stories of 2011 on Autosport. Its amazing how some of the 'nothing' stories got more reads than actual news
