I'm a City fan, and feel gutted about the result. To dominate a game and to lose it in the last minute is always hard to take, but then having said that, full credit has to go to Sunderland. They withstood all the pressure, made it difficult for City, and City weren't good enough to break down a resolute and quite frankly, superb defence. Yes, City were unlucky, hitting the bar on a few occasions, but then for all the possession dominance and chances City did create, the few chances that fell Sunderland's way were arguably better chances than any that City had. And the break-away right at the end, resulting in the winning goal - even if it was marginally offside it was still a really good, incisive move. In fact, I'd go as far to say that when Sunderland did attack, they looked much more threatening than City ever did. So all in all, I feel down about the result, but can't take anything away from the Sunderland performance. You got it spot on. So fair play to you.
very good assessment mate we are over the moon with the result.. best of luck for the rest of the season and i hope you win the league i love watching you lot play. although yesterday everytime you attacked i was ****ting myself haha
We play much better on the break than when we have to do what City have to do every week and that is break down a packed defence. We have struggled this season when teams come to the SOL and park the bus. Some of the stuff City did was brilliant. Still think City will win the league. Thanks for the comments. All the best for the rest of the season.
Thanks for that Ripley but you do have a fine team there and up to yesterday I was feeling pretty non-commital about who would win the Premiership but I hope you do it. Unless we come charging up the divison in the 2nd half of the season of course <lol> Mind you, hoping you win the league, doesn't mean we won't try to put another dent in your hopes on March 31 or whatever date Sky decide we have to play the game. I am sure you've been a City supporter for many years and seen the times when things haven't looked so rosy so you can iunderstand how we feel today, A result like that makes all the bad ones a bit easier to bear. Anyway good luck for the rest season one game excepted naturally.
It pissed me off that Mancini thought we could play a weakened team against a martin o Neill side and not come unstuck.Silva,Aguero,Balotelli,Richards,Clichy all not playing. Smacked of arrogance to me and that needs stamping out Momentum is really important and over Christmas at WBA and Sunderland we've really missed a trick. Without being disrespectful to those sides,we really should have collected 6 points
Since the late 70s. Too many downs to (want to) remember. The result yesterday reminded me of the Liverpool game a few years ago when we were under the cosh and then scored a late goal from Chris Musampa's brother! I wasn't at the game itself yesterday - watched it with my Dad, and mid-way through the second half he called the result - he just felt that for all our dominance in possession, he couldn't see us scoring, and considering that Sunderland had two very good chances to score, then Sunderland nicking it was by no means out of the question. And I don't even think you scoring the winner was underserved in truth. Defending is just as important in football as attacking, and your defensive display really did warrant you guys getting a positive result. The only positive I can take out of it is that your goal effectively (for want of a better word) "robbed" us of only one point. Anyway, thanks for your good wishes. Same to you as well. You've got a very good manager in O'Neill, and listening to Niall Quinn on Sky yesterday (who is always good to listen to and very articulate and knowledgable), things look in good shape for Sunderland. My honest opinion - you don't have anything to worry about in terms of relegation, so start looking up the table instead of worrying about what's happening beneath you! All the best.
PPLF - to be fair, we had to rotate given that we play again tomorrow. But we've gone on for a while now about how much strength we have in depth, and it was a strong team that started yesterday. And it was a stronger team that finished the game - when Sunderland did score against us we had Aguero, Richards, and Silva all playing. I don't think Mancini was being arrogant in not starting those three, or for leaving Balotelli out completely. It was just a decision made out of necessity because of how soon we are playing our next game. If we are to moan about anything, moan about the fact that we played on Sunday and then play again on Tuesday, whereas others played on Saturday and play again on Wednesday.
yeah i was over the moon that aguero wasnt playing what a player he is, best striker in the prem imo..
Like, I guess, most of the Sunderland fans when I saw the team we were having to put out I was thinking how many will City score 3,4,5. During the game every time they attacked I was thinking surely they will score this time but it just didn't happen mainly through a resolute defensive effort and, it has to be said, some luck but we all need that some time in a game. I have to agree with Ripley the fixture list is crazy. Like City, we have to play again tomorrow night although to be fair many of the teams that played on Saturday are playing today. It is only our dearly beloved neighbours up the road who have had the advantage of playing on Friday night and then don't have to play City's dearly beloved neighbours until Wednesday night.
Thanks for your kind honest words, I wonder with your manager not putting your best side out, thinking of Tuesdays game, meant you thought we would be easy? Obviously you dominated position and had a few of chances, Micah hitting the bar, but then Sess and the Gooner should have done better also. I would prefer you to win the league that manure, so good luck and if any of your players want to go on loan I am sure we will find a place for them they are quality!
