Some good memories this little conversation has stirred, for some strange reason I didn't immediately think of you jumping into a pool, but of the Northern winter sitting in a bar in Minneapolis drinking ice cold beers and eating maga-hot bowls of chilli with.........Saltines!! God I loved them, can't get them over hear. If you've seen the thread about us organising SAFC kits for Africa, any chance you could do something similar and send me a couple of packets - not the budget brands but the good ones like Nabisco?? PLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEEEEE??

I grew up in Brussels and still have Belgian residency status, though I'm back in England.

    Urgh is spot on.

Also I was at Everton and it was pretty surprising to see at least three people shouting racist abuse at Sessegnon and Muntari. I bet they're happy they came to us.

I love the club but some of our fans grew up in ****ing caves.

The problem with this is, how much truth is really in it. Of course The Sun/Daily Mail will overexxagerate stories such as the one posted in a bizarre attempt to create racial tension. Those kind of papers are one HUGE stumbling block in more racial harmony my view. The way in which they stereotype and generalize never fails to boil my blood. It changes peoples views so dramatically and causes so much hate.

It makes people feel that racism is reversing which, in truth, from my own experiences, it really isn't. The whole "It's political correctness gone mad" phrase is the kind of thing gained from propaganda media, as they constantly focus on these ridiculous stories and manage to twist them for their own purposes, not to mention potraying minorities in a more negative light.

I totally agree with whoever said one problem is who lives where and the lack of balance. Creates a lack of racial mix and causes tension. Not enough is done for this. It also creates unneeded tension in more working class areas.

Britain still has a long way to go, as rightly pointed out.

    Good thread

Never mind Britain, when we read that our two new signes had to suffer racial abuse at Everton from a few Sunderland fans it makes my heart sink. I kow it happens and I know we all have our idiots but its still not nice to read, you sort of hope we are better than that.

Debbie - Saltines AND home made chilli!! I'll have your children!! UK customs are bar stewards when it comes to chilli, so if you would pm me the recipe (pls inc the secret ingredient/s I know you put in) I'll make a batch up and let you know how it turns out. If Syd is really good I'll bring a bowl down for him when we're outside the SoL waiting for the players.

As a newbie, how come you follow SAFC?

Surely difference is that preferring someone over someone else is acceptable when that preference is based on the qualities of the person and not based on creed, religion or colour.
