Yeah, I hesitated when I wrote Pienaar. Trouble is, Harry doesn't trust him and he's always injured so it would be worthwhile to get in Hoilett on the cheap like we did with Pienaar. Then we'll have a winger who can compete with Bale and Lennon for a place rather than a last resort that doesn't get a look in. As much as we can talk about a squad depth but when you look at it the wings and up front is particularly poor for us.

According to the papers in the summer we wouldn't budge from £12mill for Damiao and Inter wouldn't budge from £18mill. If we could get shot of Pav for £5mill and atleast one more it could be worth laying out £20mill to get him. Samba is a good defender but mainly I'd want him so that we could score from the corners we're squandering.

Sorry but I don't agree with all this need for Hoillet. If we really need cover , why would we let Townsend go?

We have Falque who can play down the wings.

Definitely see Pav and GDS going and I think we might at last buy 'New Striker' that we have been after for some time and now also be in for 'That Special Player'.

Hoilett is better than Falque and Townsend and imo could be better than Lennon.

I would hope that 'New Striker' and 'That Special Player' are one and the same person.

Unless anyone can think of anyone else it has to be Leandro.
The fact that he hasn't moved to Italy or Spain could be telling.

I signed Leandro Damiao on Fm2012 for us and he scored 30 goals in the 1st season.

    Sign him up Harry.

Falque's no winger though. We haven't seen an awful lot of him at Spurs from what I read about him he can play on the wings to the same extent Kranjcar can.

I'm not worried about the goons PL, it was the price thing, having continued to do well, the price we originally had in mind last summer now seems just a deposit! The fact he hasn't gone to Spain or Italy tells me his agent is probably in Russia!...wherever the money is!, he's certainly doing the rounds for his player in all reports. I don't think this bloke is desperate to join his mate Sandro by the look of it.

Fair point,if that is the case is there a "marquee"player out there.
Or is Harry hoping one appears?

I just hope it is a "real player" and not fiction.

    Me too <laugh>

I'd quite like Hoilett to give us additional cover out wide although I have heard that he's only really decent on the left. Not a huge problem as Bale and Lennon have switched wings many-a-time during a match.

New striker is also needed - I think we should try and make Adebayor's loan a permanent move as well.

Other than that, Samba would be nice at the back but overall we're not badly set in defence (at the moment anyway).

A move I'd also like to see us make is someone like Tim Krul for when Friedel hangs up the gloves.

In terms of outs - loans for the youngsters is all well and good so long as it doesn't leave us light - bit annoyed at Townsend's deal in that regard as I thought he could've been tried for the wing role.

Pav out is a must as well.

Had to laugh, according to Yahoo, the Daily Fail are claiming that the Micky Mousers have lodged a £24M bid with Villa for Darren Bent! Perhaps we should offer them David Bentley for a mere £20M instead.....Come on Commoli, come to the Tottenham January sales, he's better than Downing by a mile.

Would hold on to Bassong and Kranjcar. Kranjcar knows where the back of the net is and Bassong, given a run in the team will recapture his form. Would like to see him play in fa cup games

I actually do regard Bassong, but with Daws back and Kaboul, Gallas and King , can we really afford not to listen to offers.
Also Caulker is back next season which is why I don't understand why the press keep linking us with CB's

I can see our roster of centre backs being shuffled in the next six months - Bassong out and Vertonghen in during January, with Gallas leaving in the summer with Caulker taking his place. That would make the pecking order...
    King
    Kaboul
    Vertonghen
    Dawson
    Caulker

...which, apart from being younger, will also fit into our current wage structure better than the current roster of King/Kaboul/Gallas/Dawson/Bassong/Caulker.

I don't feel like January is the window to be meddling with the defense, defensive partnerships seem to take longer to develop than other positions on the pitch so I can't help thinking that January is a bad time to be signing defenders as they will have no time to settle in to the club. In addition January transfers seem to be more expensive on the whole than those in the summer. I don't know much about Verthongen but people seem to think very highly of him and he sounds like he would be a good replacement for the ageing Gallas in the summer.

As I said have said though, if we can offload 2/3 fringe players and bring in 1 top quality striker I will consider this to be a very successful window. I am surprised about the complete lack of activity from anyone so far though (I know we are only 2 days in).
