Sorry if this has been covered already, but I feel very strongly about the appalling behaviour displayed in a section of the away stand last night - the section that I was in. It was only a couple of days ago that I advocated the full-blooded support of one's team. However, last night was a shameful end to the footballing calendar for 2011. I must point out that this was a minority. A minority who do not belong in football grounds. My full report will be winging its way to the powers-that-be in due course. The vile Kevin Lisbie song reared its ugly head, leading to an altercation whereby an elderly man - who voiced his disapproval to the song- was subjected to a torrent of abuse and threats of violence. Many of us intervened. I received a saliva bomb to the chest. There was a large amount of urinating going on at the back of the stand. The cascade-effect was downright disgusting for those within its slipstream. Smoking in the wooden stand. A selfish and senseless act. Many of us crave a *** during the game, but never resort to such actions. The inabilty of the stewards and Police to control such behaviours was a source of great frustration. The offenders could have been ejected early on, but too much leniency was shown throughout. A bad night on the pitch. A bad night off of it. Happy New Year, folks.
I must say I didn't experience any of that, but I guess I was just lucky. Good on you Ponders, we have a large number of fantastic fans, but these mindless idiots are not among them.
i think u should report orient to the fa make sure they close that stand as its to dangerous to have so much wood in a stadium especially after bradford im suprised they got a safety certificate for that stand
Include Crystal Palace in that letter to the FA as the away stand there is wooden as well. Plus dont forget Welling and a whole host of Non-League clubs
Well done Ponders - there's a vast difference between being loud and exuberant and simply being loutish - as I said on another thread, it appeared that some sections of our support had begun their New Year celebrations early last night, like about midday...
u all probably right re the woodern stand thing but its very dangerous though in this day and age the fa should fund for a new stand development for clubs like orient and welling
ponders sorry here your experience but it doesnt help being a stupid 520 kick off time when most are in the pub getting pissed
Saw and heard lots of trouble yesterday but luckily none of it was around near me, other than a few young lads getting a telling off by Stewards and Acworths mouse incident. Ponders, were you in the far left of the ground? Did you recognise any of them? It seems a lot of twats 'support' our club, but only rear their ugly heads during local away games. Massive well done Ponders for standing up to them
Good....someone is making a stand against these morons!.....I have been saying to people, that an element of our fans are the most foul mouthed individuals that i have come across for years and i have been supporting none stop since the sixties!!!!!.......good old fashioned banter we enjoyed, not these foul mouthed tirades and hand gestures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.........And i am NOT from the pc brigade, just like to enjoy the football without having to listen to those idiots......And dont even start me on the adams family song, what the hell has incest got to do with football??????........
That's bloody awful Ponders. If anyone spat at me I can categorically promise they'd never repeat such a vile act so long as they live...!! The savages who exhibited such deplorable behaviour are a disgrace to both themselves and our wonderful club!!
Got to say, its more a problem with society than it is with our club specifically. At the Welling vs Dartford game I saw some fairly horrific language and aggression coming from a few fans. But I guess that's nothing compared to what Ponders said. Its not the fault of the club, and there's nothing the club can do to stop people like this 'supporting' our club, other than to ban every person involved in such an incident and just hope no more such people begin to follow us. Ponders, I believe you said you are sending a report to the club, if so then thank you for standing up to such people and not letting them get away with such disgraceful behaviour.
Not sure about this. I haven't been to an away match south of Walsall (been to all the northern ones), but I've heard the Lisbie song at 3 matches (Walsall, Halifax and Hartlepool), plus the half-hour long rape 'banter' in Sheffield. I know what you mean though. I guess it's a more vocal minority that go to local away matches. But a minority it is, of that there's no doubt. I hope they have a long hard look at themselves - threatening an elderly man !! Nothing I have seen or heard was as bad as what Ponders described, however. Sorry you had to go through that, Ponders. Hopefully this will be the last time it will have to be mentioned.
You may well be right about this. Do the people singing these songs realise that the Lisbie song is offensive to our manager and assistant manager and star striker?
I guess you're right IA, but I suppose its a matter of taste. A lot of the people singing the Lisbie and Ched Evans songs were just kids. I'm not going to buy into the whole 'they don't understand what they're singing about' excuse, but I believe their reasons for singing them are similar to the reasons people turn up to Frankie Boyle/Jimmy Carr gigs. I was referring more to the repulsive stories of physically aggression, spitting and abuse directed towards fellow fans. I read about an incident at Millwall pre-season on CL (I'm not signed up on that site but occasionally browse it), then there's yesterday, one or two incidents at Brentford if I remember correctly. Maybe its a false-observation though, perhaps I'm just trying to make out people like this aren't 'true fans'.
Really ?? You really do talk a load of sh1t! Do you not think they have to pass h &s for wooden stands?? Its no smoking in football grounds now !!
Thank you for the support, lads. If any of you wish to read my report, I will happily send it to you if you forward on your e-mail addresses. Many on here know that I have a few contentious views on life in England. However, I do not wish harm on any person and will always stand up for those targeted by verbal abuse and physical threats. I am a great believer in fervent football supporting and shall always defend the right for fans to blow off some steam at the match; but last night was an excuse for a group of morons to display brute aggression and their ability to intimidate others with vile chanting and unchecked foul behaviour. If I could have indentified the spitter then I may have spent New Year's Day in an East London cell. Not to condone violence, you understand. I shall report any feedback as it happens - if it happens...
I saw nothing to this extent, but there was a very peculiar atmosphere at that game. Traveling up, their was a kid with ginger hair and his dad. A group of CAFC fans boarded at the next station - and he was then subjected to Nicky Bailey jokes for the next 30 minutes. Finally when his dad asked them to stop as it had lost it's humor, they then started to have a go at him, even then going on about his wife having an affair as the dad's hair was dark. Mindless. Walking to the ground, their were fans kicking side mirrors of cars. In the ground has pretty much been covered by others. Then on the way back we had fans near Liverpool St chanting some CAFC songs - and when a fella asked what the score was they proceeded to accuse him of taking the piss and wanted to fight. Now I know we can easily blame the alcohol, but I'm sure many of us had been in the pub from early afternoon, yet we have no behavioral issues at away games.
