I see Pardew has been given around 8 million in January. To be honest that's a little surprising but I'd expect a sale of a player to ensure we don't actually spend anything. Pardew has made another mistake is aiming for europe because if I'm honest we will never achieve that this season. Once Tiote and Ba leave we have nobody even remotely good enough to fill those positions. A good defender will be a nice addition but we do really need a striker. Everton, Villa, Stoke and Fulham are on the march now so if we really want to aim for europe I don't see any better time to spend on a striker and a defender at least.

Does anyone really believe we will finish top 10 with what we have? I think were about 3 top quality players away just now.

  2. Where is the source to back up this?

If It's true, It sounds like we're just after a center back then.

We're about 3 players away from a solid 7th I think. LB, CB, RW

And I imagine we're only after 1 CB this month then.

Really hope we try to get Barnetta for free in the summer!

Agree with AH that we're 3 players away from being a team able to finish seventh. Which is why I'd sell Tiote if it meant we signed a CB, LB, CM and attacker. Only if the money was spent on players.

If we got £25m for Tiote + £8m that's possible available already then we could buy four class players.

    Wishful thinking.

we would still spend 8 million and you should know that by now. The remaining money will be invested in to the running of the club.

Would rather see us become less financially dependent on Ashley than more. Given that Guthrie (when he's healed) Gosling and Abeid are currently able to step in for Tiote even if he is sold in January (which I doubt given he'll be busy at ACON) then meh. If the Premier League is run so badly we need to sell players to survive, so be it. When the bubble bursts...

Fairplay to you and I respect that, however I prefer anticipating the worst.

Samba would make me very happy, he's an absolute unit, although he's extremely important to Blackburn's bid to escape relegation and I think he's got a few years left on his deal so they'll be wanting a kind of fee that we can't pay. I'd actually see Hoilett as a much likelier option.

I expect unknowns to come come in tbh, better hope they're good.

From what I've beein hearing Venky's have missed a payment and it looks quite possible that they'll be selling off the family silver to avoid getting in to fiscal problems. I'm guessing Samba will be high on a lot of people's shopping list if it's true and I would be gutted if you got him - he's looked immense every time I've seen QPR this season.

Its very clear what has happened here in my opinion.

After 'desperately' needing a striker in the summer The board acted responsibly in tying up the Maiga deal early. So as to warn off any competition for him.
However - as the season progressed Mike has realized that actually, spending 8 million on a striker when goals are not a problem (With Demba firing) and that a more suitable signing might be a centre back with Saylor out for so long.

So when Maiga arrived for his medical the board have blagged that there was an 'issue' with Maiga, this despite specialists confirming no long term problems with his fitness, thus NOT HAVING to spend the 8 million on an 'unnecessary' striker and freeing up funds for a centre back.

Obviously Pards has had little or no say in this.

The fee of '8 million' exactly (that you mention above) certainly increases the liklihood of my suspicions as that was the Maiga money.
