Romain Vincelot (RB) and Lewis Dunk (CB) are both suspended, Dunk after receiving his 10th yellow card against Coventry. The defensive crisis furthers for the Seagulls, with Painter, Calderon and Elphick all injured. This means that with only two fit centre-half's and no right-backs, the back line will be makeshift. With no goal in 4 games, those games being 4 defeats, manager Gus Poyet may reshuffle his forward pack also. Vicente is a long-term casualty on the injury table. Saints: Morgan Schneiderlin is suspended for the AMEX trip, so captain Dean Hammond is likely to start alongside Jack Cork in Centre-Midfield. Also, Jose Fonte, in the words of Nigel Adkins, "is likely to return on Monday" after suffering a toe injury. The game will come too soon again for Richard Chaplow, who is still a couple of weeks away from return. Last Result: Brighton: 2-0 LOSS Vs Coventry (Away). Saints: 1-0 LOSS Vs Bristol City (Home). Predicted Saints Team: -----------------------------------Davis------------------------------------------- ---Richardson--------------Fonte----------Hooiveld-------------------------Fox---- ---De Ridder---------------Hammond-------Cork---------------------------Lallana-- ---------------------------Lambert--------Guly------------------------------------ Subs: Bart, Martin, Harding, Holmes, Connolly. Key Man: Brighton: Craig Mackail-Smith: With Brighton's goalless run stretching to 4 games now, the £3m summer signing needs to make an impact on this game and get his side scoring again. Saints: Dean Hammond: The former Brighton man will come back into the side and needs to lead by example if Saints are to get back to winning ways. The boo-boys will be in for him, though. Referee: Andy D'Urso please log in to view this image Last Saints Game: Southampton 1-0 Millwall, 20th August 2011 Prediction: 1-1 draw. A tough game, despite Brighton's recent form. Poyet will get his players up for this game, but in recent times, since the Uruguayan's first game in charge of the Seagulls, Saints' record has been good against this opposition. Brighton to take the lead in the 55th minute, Matt Sparrow with a edge of the box screamer, before Lallana bundles home an equaliser just 2 minutes later. Together As One. COYR!
We will win this 2.0 or 2.1. We have been let off the hook with todays results, so the team will be up for this. They will be hurting from the Bristol City loss in front of such a big crowd. And I suspect Nicola has taken their loved ones hostage as insurance
I think we'll be back to winning ways for thisone. 2-0. Not a bad game for Morgan to serve suspension as Hammond would have played anyway. I doubt fontewas ever injured 1- he's one booking from a ban too and I suspect Nigel was saving him for Brighton. Good game for him to get a booking and then miss the fa cup game next week! De ridder could do the same.
Agreed, Fonte's absence was tactical. The problem with this fixture is, Brighton will be so up for it, its going to be messy. Not how we need to start the new year, but theres not a better time to play 'em, so lets get stuck in. Yellow amnesty, lets start racking them up with the brighton delinquents!
I reckon Martin might deputise for Fonte again to give him some time to shake off his toe problem and the knock he's been carrying for some time now. Nigel Adkins said that he thought Martin had a good game yesterday despite the result. Davis, Richardson, Martin, Hooiveld, Fox De Ridder, Cork, Hammond, Lallana Lambert, Connolly Bart, Fonte, Harding, Reeves, Guly
I too didn't buy the "Fonte has a toe injury" thing. I'm completely expecting him to return. Hammond back into the midfield, and possibly Connolly up front, would be my only other changes. Probably 1-1 draw, maybe 2-1 Saints.
Yep, no predictions from me as usual. Although, said to me 'ol man last night on the way in. 'Got a bad feeling about this one.' As usual, he predicted an easy win. D'oh.
Brighton have got 12 players suspended for this match! And most of them are their 1st team players aswell! Easy win for us,3-0 saints!
This will not be an easy game for both teams. We have really struggled to get any form over the last month. Hopefully after a few signing the club can get back to winning ways but i can only see this game becoming a 1-1 draw. I'm hoping Saint will prove me wrong.
I want you guys to win cos Gus Poyet is starting to annoy me and seaweed fans are very gobby( yes we Pompey fans aren't want to talk in that sense) BUT at the same time I want you to lose for obvious reasons. Is there no way neither of you can pick up any points?
I don't think Fonte will be risked, and Richardson went off with a knock apparently last night so if true: Davis Butterfield Hooiveld Martin Harding De Ridder Hammond Cork Fox Connolly Lambert SUBS: Bart, Lallana, Holmes, Guly, Reeves Sorry but I feel Lallana needs to be dropped right now
I think you mean Brighton have 12 players out (suspended or injured) and that is certainly a large number. Obviously, this will affect them but doesn't necessarily mean a cakewalk. I still remember the play-off 2nd leg at Derby where we had a scratch defence and attack and still won the game on the night if not the tie Think this game could be a dour midfield battle and will end 1-1 COYS
This game is right up there with the Pompey match. Brighton really irritate me and I can't wait to beat them at their new stadium.
Think we really need to take at least a draw away from this. It's hardly panic time, but we have to stop dropping points if we're to be up there at the end of the year. Going to go with a 2-1 win. Lambert with a brace, scoring on a penalty shortly into the second half and a headed goal from a Richardson cross fairly late in the affair.
