After yesterdays performance, all of the plaudits go to Stevie and Craig and rightly so.....but let's not forget the amazing goal line clearance by Skrtel at 2-1. IMO, Skrtel has been back to his very best in recent weeks and has put to bed the Lucasesque type criticism that he received under Roy bloody Hodgson. Stand up Martin Å krtel, I salute you <party>

I went for a piss in a pub full of Geordies when it happened, sounded like they scored. Came back to see the score still 2-1 and the replays, what a guy!

Same. He has been pretty poor previously, but he's formed a very good partnership with the rest of the back four!

Me too <ok> He looks a different player when playing on the right side (but please god never at full back again). All credit to him and Agger. Heard we've been linked with Cahill again this morning but not sure I'd be happy about either of our centre backs losing their position at the moment and that says a lot for how well Skrts has been playing.

Said a couple of years ago on 606 that defenders do not peak until there late 20's and that I thought Skrtel would become one of the very best in Europe. Took loads of stick for those comments but looks as if I may have been right all along!

He's definitely underrated; he's formed a solid partnership with Agger and yesterday highlighted how different the players are, but how they compliment each other so well.

He's much more of a general defender, good at winning the ball in the air, solid under pressure and has amazing last ditch tackles in the bag. Agger is a much calmer defender who anticipates tackles more and tracks back better than Skrtel.

The main difference with Skrtel is that I no longer get scared when he's against someone in the box, he's really worked on not pulling other players' shirts.

Let's not forget... Agger and Skrtel are both 27; for CBs they've yet to even reach their peak. A year or 2 and I feel they'll be the best CBs in the league.

I don't rate Cahill, I know he is the best defender in a poor team but I just don't see his technical defensive abilities. Now I've said that he will probably go on to become a cracking defender for Chelsea. <ok>

I know what you mean regarding Cahill. He's okay but i've never been wowed by him. Don't think he's any better than what we have already got for sure.

Also we shouldn't forget Agger's input...what is that now? 10/11 games on the run? Surely his longest run in Liverpool red? Please let it go on. <prayersmiley>

Think Skrtel and in particular Agger have better distribution than Jamie, we are seeing less hoofball and our moves starting from good passing from the back. Of course Enrique and Johnson contribute to this as they are both very comfortable on the ball. You can see Pepe totally trusts them as he has no hesitation in giving the ball to there feet. Maybe this is part of the reason we are dominating the possesion stats lately?

Yeah true. Distribution has never been Carr's game. It's interesting how Johnson's form has come out of nowhere. It has to be the first time we have had a good left and right back as well as CB's. I can't even remember the last time.

Yeah I have to a agree, or at least very close to that tosser at United. He is a little overated I think in a very solid team.

The way Enrique has adampted is top class!

Yeah the little French fella is good, but quite inconsistent, and a you rightly state, a complete to$$er, it has to be between Enrique and Cashley.... Enrique is only 25 though, so best years still to come.

Yeah good point 25. That it? Has to be won of the best bits of business in the window surely? We've been critisized, rightfully so, but we also got Bellamy+Adam+Enrique for what 12 million? That excellent. You never hear about that do you?

    Cole's getting on.

True, still think Carroll will come good too, think Gerrard can help out. Maybe Gerrard is part of the reason Torres was so prolific for us?

Yup a huge part. He is such an intelligent footballer.

Lets see what he can do with Carroll. If he cannot get him going then knowbody will imo.

Glen has looked very good recently too! Getting the basics right first, take a bow Steve Clark!
