Thought is get back to the original point Players talked about so far include: Maynard (Bristol City) Sharp (Doncaster) Jukkkk (Coventry) Adomah (Bristol City) Clyne (Crystal Palace) Butterfield (Barnsley) Shaqiri (FC Basel) Any more? Or what are your thoughts so far? Who could this big signing be?
Why would shaqiri join us? Premier league is alot better than the league he is in now.. and basel wont even get passed the next stage esp if man u get put back in the champs league.
the sun has us and newcastle after the same guy http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4029404/Newcastle-want-Robbin-Ruiter.html. looks big, commanding, good reactions and can keep hold of the bloody ball http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVOZnsuxHkU
Hopefully someday we'll have someone of Niemi's quality between the sticks again. Those were the days..
Someone on th Echo site mentioned Marcello Trotta from Fulham, can't find out much about him apart from being an Italian 19 yo striker who is on loan at Wycombe. No relation to Rodney or Del Boy...............
Japan's Tadanari Lee to join Championship side Southampton - report After scoring 26 goals in the last two seasons for Sanfrecce Hiroshima, the 26-year-old looks to challenge himself overseas and remain a regular member of the Samurai Blue squad Sanfrecce Hiroshima striker Tadanari Lee is set to join English Championship side Southampton in the January transfer period, according to Nikkan and other Japanese media, with an offer from Nigel Adkins' side reportedly on the table. Other sources including Asahi report that the two sides have already come to a basic agreement, and that Lee will travel to England in early January to complete a physical and sign his contract. Lee, who was born in Tokyo to Korean parents, scored 15 goals this season for Sanfrecce. With the club in financial trouble, many believed that he would leave in January with clubs in his homeland, France, and Germany all said to be in pursuit.Urawa Reds, in particular, hoped to attract the attacker after hiring former Sanfrecce coach Mihailo Petrovic. As with many other Japanese players who have been linked to English clubs, some questions remain as to whether or not Lee fulfills the minimum required appearances for Japan's national team in the last two years to qualify for a work permit. However, Sponichi claim that the Purple Archer will be granted an exception after earning 10 caps for Japan in 2011. The highlight of Lee's international year was undoubtedly January's Asian Cup final, when the late substitute skillfully volleyed a cross from Yuto Nagatomo to score the game's lone goal against Australia. He would join former Urawa Reds man Yuki Abe, a defender for Leicester City, in England's second tier. The two could potentially face off as early as January 24 when Southampton, who currently lead the division, will play host to the Foxes. http://www.goal.com/en/news/14/asia...ari-lee-to-join-championship-side-southampton
I wouldn't be shocked if this is true. As I've said, if we're not interested in Sharp then it's because we're looking at the Premiership or abroad - and quite honestly, I can't think of a single realistic Premiership name, thus only leaving someone from abroad (possibly someone who we've never heard of before).
One of the first things Cortese got better organised was the whole scouting system. Wouldn't surprise me if found another gem from nowhere.
What you have to remember he is playing in a struggling Coventry side so can only be as good as the as the players around him and supply he gets. With better players around him he may improve and don't forget he is a Saints supporter so hopefully he would give his all for the club. A lot of fans had little faith when Dave Jones signed Chris Marsden he may not of had the skill but he gave his all for the club winning the fans round and is thought of as a Saints legend to the majority of fans so if we do go for him he will get my support.
The article sounds very confident that this will happen for a transfer that hasn't been formally announced. It's usually bust a brief "Southampton interested in player x" or "pplayer x set to sign for Southampton".
Tadanari Lee is an interesting one and looks plausible to me. Cortese is a canny operator and may be looking ahead to pre league. Does any other club have a Japanese tie in for overseas tours?
I'm not saying he would be **** or anything, and I agree with your points about how hes a Saints fan so would be passionate about the club. I'm just saying that he seems very similar to Lambert in the way he plays so they may not be able to play together, so I would rather us look at a different kind of forward.
In a rush so not gonna trawl through the rumour thread but came across this... http://www.goal.com/en/news/14/asia...ari-lee-to-join-championship-side-southampton Potential Japanese signing, don't know much about him, thoughts?
The Tadanari article does seem confident, could be interesting. Anyone know much about his game? I wouldn't be disappointed with Lukas and this guy. As someone else said in this thread, Lukas has done OK in a poor performing side, so could do the business for us. Does anyone else think we need a battler in the mid, or is Hammond and co enough?
