Good morning Saints. Firstly [as regulars here will know] I haven't come to gloat! I read with interest, yesterday, the article on the BBC site about your unbeaten run at home. I knew you hadn't lost at St Marys for some time but I hitherto hadn't realised that you'd been unbeaten there right through 2011, with only two sides getting a draw! To go the whole calendar year and then slip up on the 30th December must have felt like an olympic hurdler clearing the last hurdle 10m clear of the field and then tripping over his shoelace and landing in a heap a couple of yards from the finishing line. Hey ho. At least you can take solace in the fact that you will end 2011 top of the Championship (provided West Ham don't put 6 past Derby, or Middlesbrough 13 past Peterborough!) The way things are going it looks, alas, that there may be but one more South Coast Derby before you set sail for the Premier League. How long will we have to wait for another? If you do get fed up at big school [Premier League], we'll be here, kicking our heels in the Championship playground, bouncing our ball and waiting - if you fancy a game Happy New Year.
Hi Dev, Happy New Year to you. Bristol City appear to be a bogey team for us and I had a horrible feeling that last night's result was coming. There is an awful lot of ground to cover between now and the end of April. The PL does not even feature on the radar at the moment.
Actually, to me it is not so devastating. We had a fantastic run, a record-breaking run. It would have been bad to have lost in a game where we were terrible, or had 2 players sent off, or scored an own goal or similar. As it was, we lost to a side which played on the deck, passing football and closed us down, they deserved it. It was also one nil, so our goal difference remains good. As NA says, we don't get too up when we win, or too down when we don't.
Good draw for you lot today! Leicester will no doubt be looking to splash some cash asap, however they don't look such a good proposition with their position in the league. It will be all about the money. Happy New Year
Thanks Dev, nice post. West Ham just lost at Derby, so hey ho 2012 here we come! Happy New Year to Saints fans - and Portsmouth fans who are not WUMS.
Nice post Dev - many thanks and have a happy new year. Hopefully you will find a buyer that will keep you afloat too.
Dev, you are so reasonable. When will you come over from the dark side?! Happy New Year to you and those members of the Pompey hordes with a sense of humour like yourself (even you, Fratton!)
That article was a little misleading. Although we didn't end one full calendar year unbeaten, it was actually almost 14 months since our last league loss at SMS. Proud times
