BBC are saying that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson expects Jonny Evans to be out for two weeks with a calf injury, adding to club's defensive problems. He said: "We have had a nightmare the last few days," said Ferguson. "Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have both been ill. "Rio Ferdinand called off with a back injury and Jonny Evans has come off at half-time. It puts you under pressure." Who now to fill in at CB? Will Ritchie De Laet be recalled? Fryers to get more games at CB or Keane, Wootton or indeed Brown to be promoted?
At least one of Jones and Smalling should be back for the 30th, with Rio having a decent chance as well if it's just a tight back. And Rafael should be ok to play part of the game by now. So I don't think it will be a major issue - Carrick at CB should be enough against Blackburn at OT. In fact, I'd almost be tempted to go with Carrick and Fryers, or even Carrick and Evra, at CB to ensure that we have as many CBs fit as possible for the Newcastle match on the fourth. With Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Nani and Berb all fit we should be able to bag a fair few against Blackburn even if we concede one.
Rafael is back as well, I don't think there is much to worry about with Jones and Smalling. This isn't a bad time to have a bit of time off to be honest, Wigan and Blackburn at home shouldn't pose too much trouble and even if push comes to shove, Carrick and Valencia in defence with Fryers should be good enough. Maybe even this is a blessing in disguise as it gives Fryers a bit more exposure having impressed in the Carling Cup.
We should be fine, apparently Jones and Smalling were both sick for the game against Wigan, I'd imagine they'll be ready for Blackburn. Rio probably sat out to be cautious, as he has played quite a lot recently. If everyone is fit I'd like to see a back four of Rafael Smalling Jones Evra Smalling and Jones are the future of the United back line. I'd love to include Rafael in there, but I'm not sure if he can stay fit for a full game, let alone a whole season.
evans-----i don't think he can reach the level of vidic in the next three years , a bit dissppointed of what he have done in some matches ! please log in to view this image
I doubt most defenders around today could reach the level of Vidic in the next three years. I don't think that's the basis we should be judging our fifth choice CB on...
The injuries to our back line and to our midfield are so significant that I cannot see United emerging from the holiday season at the top. I think we'll be lucky to remain in contention. I can see dropped points against Blackburn and Newcastle.
i think it become better now ,just keep this way , i don't think it will lost more in the next matches ! please log in to view this image
Smalling has Glandular fever, Out for upto 3 months. I had that and it just ****s you up for about 4 weeks, then its a slow recovery back to full fitness.
He has tonsilitis. Daily Mirror talking **** again. http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-F.../manchester-united-team-news-v-blackburn.aspx He'll miss out vs Blackburn but should be back against Newcastle. Jones should be ok for Blackburn (fingers crossed) so probably Jones and Carrick at CB, Rafael / Valencia at RB and Park and Giggs at CM? Or maybe Fryers will get a start. Either way, with Rooney, Welbeck, Berb and Nani all fit and firing and Hernandez coming back to fitness we should have enough to see off Blackburn at OT. Should...
No SAF said he should be back for the Newcastle game or the city game,Jones is fit for Blackburn and Rio could be on the bench at least
To be fair City are doing pretty well. It's more a case of us having our best ever start to a PL season. We've gone back to doing what we do best - getting results no matter what the performance. It bodes very well for the second half of the season, particularly when players start coming back from injury.
Swarbs city are playing well no doubt . Definitely better than last season but I do believe their squad is not as good as people make out and that they could very well slip up.
