Brilliant player. Fantastic lad. We are lucky that he has stuck with us through it all! Makes me proud
Just a pointless thought .....If Saints do gain promotion this year I wonder what would be running through Andrew Surmans head ? ....Will he ,like lallana wish he had stayed at Saints (if the option was there for him) or would he not regret moving on to wolves and ending up at norwich .....I wonder if saints did go up would he jump at a chance to move back ? or is Southampton for him just part of his past ....for reference im fully aware that we needed to sell as we needed the money
He understood we needed to sell to stay afloat Buy I think past is last now and that we shouldn't return to sign former players
if i remember correctly surman wasn't that keen on a move, but the club forced it through to finance themselves for a little longer, i'm not sure he ever wanted to leave
I also think that was the case , I just wondered if Saints still really means anything to him ...I was wondering if the offer was there (which it wont be ) would he jump at a move back if we were prem , or is he happy anywhere (like norwich) as long as he is playing in the top flight ...........Only one man knows
He is a local lad and Saints fan so I'm sure he is as happy as we are at whats going on. He only left to help keep the club afloat and didn't want to leave. However I'm sure he is enjoying his time playing premier league football with Norwich all the same.
The agent who processed this deal was actually a non-exec on my board. I always enjoyed board meetings as I was often able to wheedle a bit of gossip out of him. I can confirm that Surman actually said no to a number of offers from PL clubs. His hand was ultimately forced on the loyalty card (i.e. if you don't go, there may not be a club to be loyal to anymore!).
Class player and seems a nice bloke, met and chatted to him a few times. He seems down to earth ,which is rare for footballers these days.
I think it may be a little too early to be sure that he has made the right decision. I am pleased that he made the choice that he did but whether we can say that for him it was the right one or not I think we need to ask that question in about ten years time. There is of course the important question of what we mean by right. Right for us as fans, right for him and his family, right for him personally, right for him professionally, right for him financially, right for the club. He may put a different weighting to us or the club on any or all of these issues.
