The Thatcher government openly discussed abandoning Liverpool in 1981.The plan put forward by Geoffrey Howe was to put Liverpool into managed decline.

I hope that **** lives on for another few years, thinking Dennis is still alive

Now the 6 year ban from Heysel just looks even more sinister than it was at the time.

Truly evil woman who had the typical tory attitude of " Bugger you jack , Im alright".The NHS and British Transport system is still f**ked after years on non investment under that tory government.Looking after the haves and not the have nots.

And at the time we were told we were paranoid if we dared to suggest the government hated Liverpool....Thank god for Hezza the one man who had a bit of vision and conscience in that bunch of money grabbing asset stripping ****s.

Doesn't the article say that it was Thatcher's ministers that were suggesting to abandon Liverpool, and not Thatcher herself? Isn't the title of this thread therefore incorrect?

Not really. Heseltine had to work ****ing hard to persuade her to put any money into Liverpool and without his input she undoudtedly would have done what Howe and the other toff twats wanted her to do and continue to screw a once great city into the ground.

All governments, fook over the people who voted them in.

If Brown or Blair showed there faces around my way, someone would take them out for the way they screwed over industries in this area. Thatcher wasn't any worse than those two twats.

Both self confessed Thatcherites themselves...the dicks.

In all fairness though we as a city don't do ourselves any favours by continually voting in the worst councils on Gods earth...Militant/Hattons bunch of corrupt screwballs, Lib Dems with Storey and Henshaw the corrupt sanctimonious greedy bunch of no marks and now we vote Labour back in just as the party's lost all power and is being led by Mr Bean. You couldn't make it up really <laugh>

    Can't entirely agree, I'm afraid.
Thatcherism set back the cause of social responsibility by government back about a century imo. Thatcherite policies ( adopted from the USA models, where else?) engendered a philosophy of greed and selfishness that those of us who grew up in the sixties thought we, as a society, were growing out of.
A government has responsibility to all it's citizens- not just its cronies.
