reakon this can only be a good thing, could get some real tallent from over there. http://www.ghanasoccernet.com/kotoko-firms-up-partnership-deal-with-sunderland/? All is now set for the implementation of a partnership agreement signed between Asante Kotoko and Sunderland. This follows the official joint-signing of the implementation document on Wednesday. Executive Chairman of Kotoko Dr. K.K Sarpong signed on behalf of the Ghanaian giants while Sunderlandâs CEO Ms. Margaret Bryne did same for the English Premiership outfit. The agreement will see both parties explore various opportunities of mutual interests; Kotoko will benefit from the coaching, medical and administrative exchange programs while Sunderland will benefit through the signing of players who excel during trials. The possibility of a friendly match between the two sides is also reported to have been captured in the agreement but no official announcement has yet been made to that effect.
Our last Ghana player wasn't exactly a roaring success though? To be honest, I'm not that sold on African footballers at the moment. Would rather we looked to Europe for players.
mensah was amazing (when fit) gyan was very good but he is'nt everyone's favourite person right now (to say the least) haha. but you do get some quality players from over there, and seems like were gona be getting the heads up asap when there is a new star. so im all for it
But did you read the comments that followed....i.e the one about Gyan refusing to train.....maybe a load of ****e, but who knows.
Mensah when fit was excellent and, if we can get one player like him who can stay fit we could be onto a winner. Gyan while not flavour of the year with most of us on here was a decent 10-12 goal a season player so, again one player like him (minus the pound signs or whatever they pay in UAE) would be great. Having said that I would be dubious of African players due to the ACN every couple of years which sees them gone for 4 to 6 weeks in January, we can't afford that sort of loss during a season like some teams.
African footballers are going to be the dominant force in years to come and this can only be a good thing.
It's all about Marketing and increasing turnover (cash) - think of how many shirts could be / will be sold
This. Plus possible investment - Ashante is the centre of the large Ghanaian gold field so we shouldn't imagine any lack of funds. Both Mensah and Gyan played well enough for us. And Muntari might have done something if he hadn't constantly been played out of position. He played well enough for Ghana against England in his correct position.
I was never THAT impressed with Gyan, though he did show flair in the early games for us, Muntari never got going in a team low on confidence and as for Mensah - he's a God Aren't we forgetting Sessegnon? Our player of the year so far this season imo - by a country mile n'arl marra.
