Good to know, I'd have loved to see him get his chances for us in the Europa League this season but I think it was for the best that he gets regular PL experience.

Swantastic, I'm going to have to decline that offer, you can have David Bentley for £15mill though... <whistle>

    It was mad, wasn't it? Goals like that make me make involuntary noises and jump around, to back yourself and know you've enough speed after that touch, and then the composure on the finish... just incredible. My second favourite Bale goal is this one;

this is a fairly easy game for spurs even if we do have the lions share of possession, spurs will keep us in our own half and let us play among ourselves and when they feel like go up to premiership mode they will take the ball of us and score. the chances we will get will be minimal and unproductive through lack of fire power....there wont be many goals as spurs only need to win the game without exerting too much energy as they have much stronger and harder games coming up. spurs 2 - 0 swans.....

Bale's 2nd goal against Stoke was good, wasn't it?
The first was an attempted clearance by a defender that went in off his face, though!

Heh, yeah, I did see that and have a giggle looking for the other one!

What's the score with Jake Livermore? I read an interview a few weeks ago where he said he wanted to go out on loan (or at least, wouldn't mind) but Harry didn't fancy it too much? If he's not getting games... He any good or what?

Livermore's a decent prospect and he's done well for us when called upon, but I don't think that Redknapp wants to let him go out on loan.
He's seen as back-up for Parker and Sandro, but he's also quite a useful sub, especially as they're both starting at the moment.

We've sent out a couple of youngsters on loan to Millwall today and there are rumours about others, too.
Redknapp sees it as a good way to test and develop them and it's worked well for us so far.
Walker spent six months at QPR, then another six at Villa and he's been immense for us this season.
Caulker's done a couple of seasons in lower divisions, stepping up each time and you've seen the benefit to him in this season.

    Livermore to Swansea?
Could happen, as he's a defensive player, but he can actually play some nice stuff, too.

Gower starts this game in the middle with Agustien & Britton & all 3 will have a good game . Dyer back on the flank with Sinclair , with Graham up front . Jazz will be up for Bale , he's young & flying with a lot of confidence these days . I'd play him against Bale , ahead of Rangel carring a knock . Taylor , Bessone if necessary , on the left . Monk & Williams will reunite in the middle . 4 starting changes & the Spurs are in for a game , they won't blow us out of the water . I think we'll catch them snoozing 2 - 1 ...

  10. S**t! I was hoping he'd grab a hat-trick. Shame he's out injured as he's been a key asset to our midfield this season.

lets be honest..we should destroy Swansea..they dont score often and if we decide that we are for once not going to entertain the football world with our slick one touch 70's Dutchesque total football way of playing and just slam that sphere in the onion bag at least twice for every 6 chances we get then i can see a 0-6 to us or a 0-0!

Well if that's the biggest hole you can pick in my article, I've done a good job!

Of course you should! I think apart from Man City, Spurs have the strongest first XI in the PL this season and some of the players who'll be on display are truly world class. I just don't see the Swans having enough confidence to believe they can win the game, which could be a huge problem if that continues...

    Football is mad though!

  13. Just kidding Scottswan: I must echo the sentiments of my fellow spurs fans here; it really is a top notch article.

As for your *ahem* 'slight' mistake, I found it rather amusing to be honest.

The only bummer about Jenas being out for the rest of the season is that Villa are less likely to take the spanner on a permanent basis...

I figured it was only mild jest so didn't take my gloves off ;)

I read somewhere that Villa were paying the £45,000pw Jenas is reputed to be on. Spurs gave Jenas a contract like that?! When? Who was in charge?

I think this game is an ideal time for Harry to give the rest of his squad a run-out. That way I think the defeat might not be so great.

  16. Believe it or not, he actually used to be a very good, if not 'very promising' player, rightfully living up to a reputation earned at Newcastle that he was "England's rising star".

I think he flourished most under Martin Jol and Juande Ramos, who appointed him vice-captain. However, as we undoubtedly 'upped the ante' quite significantly under Arry, he joined a rapidly growing list of players who were simply out of their depth. Some of those players (e.g Bale, Huddlestone, Lennon, BAE and Kaboul) all recognised the need to shift up a gear, and did so accordingly- to rather devastating effect, as your lot are about to discover!
Others (e.g Bentley, Gomes, Hutton and Jenas himself) were either unwilling or unable to make the transition, and stagnated badly as a result.

would not mind if you could send us some players our way for the rest of the season, caulker has been great and one of the very few who we have that are premiership standard.......a couple more wont go amiss ..;)

I do have a soft spot for Spurs and have always kept an eye out for their results and goings on, and that's probably a very accurate summation. Jenas is a player who, while he is a "tidy" footballer, I think he's often disguised a lack of composure with athleticism... as many others seem to be doing at PL level. Reo-Coker is another who runs and runs and it does make up for a lot, but if you're pushing on (like Spurs are now) then you need more in your locker than being able to charge around for 90 minutes.

Jenas also had a tendency to score against Arsenal every so often, which helps immensely.

As an outsider I'd say he has a bigger knack of sprinting 90 yards into an amazing position only to fluff his lines!
