i dont think poor modric was 'bullied' and it amazes me that as a football fan Piskie thinks that it is ok for a footballer to to demand a move when a large chunk of his contract is still to run..just so that the player can earn a bigger wage....or is the move to win more trophies? i think levy did what a father would do to a son and say....'look son.the future is not blue but bleak'...and that made the penny drop about which club is going places...and sometimes when one is a child he strays once the words are nothing but a memory...so now he may be sounding again...no doubt daddy will put little modric right again come the end of the season..and he will be on our season 12/13 club brochure posing the new kit nothing to do with bullying..more a case of educating
That's a very generous spin you've put on that Dona and I didn't say that I thought it was okay for a footballer to demand a move. Modric wanted out and even went as far to say that Levy reneged on a 'Gentlemen's agreement' that they had about a transfer. He was bullied into staying, that is as clear as day.
I see the Modric situation last Summer very differently I'm afraid; a players agent had made enquiries/had enquiries made about his client and when the numbers were mentioned his head got turned, his employees refused to negotiate as they knew their asset had 4/5 years left on his contract and whose value would hold, the player got upset about not being allowed to leave so put in a transfer request and subsequently went on strike. The fact he's come back and performed OK is more likely because if his attitude is questioned his salary expectations probably reduce from both his current employers and any potential employers. The way I see it the guy signed a long term contract and should honour it, Tottenham should be commended for their stance. I remember quite clearly an interview with 'Arry when he said the Chairman should get the chequebook out and pay the man because he thought he was worth it, this happened while he was on strike and suggests that money is a huge driver for him, and Tottenham are no different to Arsenal, you can't compete with the Cheslea/Man City money....
i thought by saying that he was bullied according to you means that he was kept against his wishes.....and for you to see it this way must mean that you feel as if he was wrongly done by,by not being allowed to move instead of honouring his contract...when really you as a fan should be siding with the club whichever one it may be that is having its arm twisted by the player who is making noises about going on strike etc......is that what working class fans deserve from multi millionaire footballers who just want a silver lining to their pocket? or was it for the trophies?
It is when they make it specifically clear that they want to leave, who they want to join and cite the breaking of a previous agreement between chairman and player on the issue of a transfer.
Even if the agreement had been made, what Modric said it was wasn't broken. "if a bigger club came in with a concrete offer, we would consider it and agree the best solution for all concerned." Well firstly, Chelsea aren't a bigger club, so that's straight out the window. Secondly, the best thing for Spurs and arguably Modric was to not sell. The fact that he made it crystal clear that he'd been in contact with Chelsea would also put any gentleman's agreement to bed, wouldn't it? A gentleman doesn't sneak around making deals behind his employer's back, does he?
Chelsea aren't a bigger club than Spurs. If you believe that they are, then you should be sorry. I assume that you don't think that they're bigger than Arsenal?
Sounds like Luka is still unsure about his future at Spurs http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/dec/29/luka-modric-tottenham-transfer-window I don't think he'll be bullied into staying for another season if he wants to leave.
and Spurs dont have a better history and traditions than Chelsea? or is that just your biased opinion as oppose to a well balanced answer?
Recent history? Their recent history is better than yours, so presumably they're a bigger club than you are, too.
so our tradition and history is better.... even though you was tempted to further disect the argument by saying its big but not that much bigger... either way its bigger
Now your just becoming bitter and nasty..like a crack addict who got found out stealing from his own mums purse.....as for not willing to pay Ade's wages but having him...err dont you think thats a bit of a genius move and your club could do with such shrewd deals too?
the bitter and nasty should have been accompanied by a then you would have known that i was joking. i didnt say you are the crack addict and i dont think the transfer system should be banished..it will teach teams to not buy players and put them on 150k a week then not play them...im all for hurting the fat cats who try to ruin football by purchasing talent then wasting it on the bench just so that other teams cant make fair deals in the first place....then again i would think this as my club has a wage ceiling of 75k a week and you would think what you do as your club is the type that is willing to pay 120k plus a week to players just to tie them down as oppose to what thier ability merits
Still hurt about Wolves, eh SNIAW? Don't take it out on us because you couldn't beat 10 men. At home.
I agree but unfortunately it is so what's wrong with taking advantage. We both haven't won the lottery so have to rely on other means for players and success. I actually think you lot have done fantastically well considering all factors and a well run club should be in higher regard then one that simply throws money all over the place
