If tommorow, Wenger bid for Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, or Van Der Vaart, I would be happy.

Don't care if they've played for spurs, they would all help our squad IMO.

Unfortunately, Spurs are doing well this season.

We've signed plenty of players from Spurs over the years so why would it matter ?

Exactly. In fact, I think one of these players SHOULD be signed, if Spurs fail to make the CL and we do.

2 thirds of the Barcelona team could help our squad even more.

I'm missing something obvious so apologise for having to ask, but what is the point of the thread?

The point is that, in the past, we would have been like "Signing players from Spurs? WTF" but now you have to admit that it could easily become more commonplace.

Bale would be a good option to add to our winger talent (especially if Arshavin is to make way soon).

VDV and Modric are both also good players and woudl give us good depth in midfield.

I'm sure VDV and Modirc would love to play at Arsenal - Bale though seems like a real spud... Who knows though - he would get to compete at a higher level with Arsenal!

Out of the 3, Bale would be the least helpful to our squad, i mean, who would get at the end of his crosses? We never have anyone in the friggin box to header it! In my opinion, VDV would fit in the easiest as he could play in the Fabs role and play in the front 3 positions. Modric would be our main central midfield creator.

Can't see it happening, but I'd take Modric and Bale, not VDV. I think Wilshere and Ramsey will become much better players than VDV.

Bale could replace Arshavin, Modric would fill the hole left by Fabregas.

Can any Arsenal fan seriously see the club forking out the figure that it would take to sign one of these players?
That's ignoring the whole issue of whether we'd sell to you, of course.

No, it's totally speculative. But if Spurs don't make the champions league and Modric and Bale want out, then you may not be able to command as high a figure as you want. I think Levy basically bullied Modric into staying after he said he wanted to go to Chelsea (not the flower show) , but I don't think it would work again.

That said, I doubt Spurs would sell their best players to Arsenal.

We're not in the Champions League this season and we turned down a £40m bid for Modric.
He's been exceptional since the transfer window shut and Bale's only getting better all the time.

Van der Vaart's fitness would probably restrict his price somewhat, but the other two would command massive fees and there'd be a lot of competition to sign them, too.
Any thoughts of a reduced figure is laughable, frankly.

The problem is that if Modric still wants to leave and hands in another transfer request, I don't think Levy will be able to play hard ball again. He got away with the bullying tactics once, I don't think it would wash again. Personally, I think £40m was a vast over valuation for Modric and Spurs probably should have taken the offer, but I can understand why they didn't. If Barca come in for him, I think you'll find it hard to stop him going - and I don't think they'll offer anywhere near £40m

Barca played you on the Fabregas transfer because he was only ever going to join one club.
I can't see them moving for Modric anyway, but if they did then they'd be competing with other clubs.

Levy told Chelsea were to go, despite their financial clout.
He'd do the same to the Catalans, especially with their derisory offers.

Yeah, we got shafted by Barca because it was the only club Fabregas wanted to go to (I hope we can return the favour one day)
I think Barca use their appeal to drive down prices, if they did come in for Modric and he wanted to go, they would employ the same tactics.

And Levy would refuse to sell to them completely if they did.
Chelsea tried to lowball him on the Modric deal and he basically told them to **** off.
If they'd have opened with their last bid, then they'd probably have got him.

the thing is we don't have to sell Modric,if we needed the money he would have gone when we were offered 40 million for him
