Wow what a positive reaction to a player saying he's happy at the club. <doh>

Damned if you do, damned if you dont. He didnt leave last January or in summer, what's changed?

This doesn't change my opinion of what will happen.

And my opinion is that no one has a ****ing clue, other than Ashley/Llambias and Tiote himself perhaps.

Not a catch 22 at all. I'm just bored of reading the same hole-ridden throat clearings that lead into January. If he said he was happy and did not want to leave, then he wouldn't be 'damned' at all, similarly if he said he was happy but would still consider a move if it would further his career I wouldn't 'damn' his honesty at all. Instead it's just another comment which is so open ended that it can easily be tossed into the bin later on if anybody questions it. We get these all the time and it'd be nice if one time or another we had somebody just come out and say something honest and frank instead of making us all brick it as January draws to a close.

I don't think he'll leave in January to be honest. I believe his head may be turned in the summer depending on 1) how well we do this season 2) who comes in with an offer and 3) how much that offer is (if it's substantial, like Pardew said, all parties may have to consider the transfer)

right lads, i'm starting a whipround. the idea is, we give enough cash that Ashley'll earn more by keeping him.

Why would you look so much into how he's worded it? English is his third language and footballers are usually rather thick anyway.

Thing that stuck out for me... he referred to football as his job, no love for the club, no attachment to the club. He obviously enjoys football, seems like he'll go wherever pays him best and he'll play regularly. I can see him going, not sure when though.

I'm not looking very much into anything at all, it isn't as though I'm picking apart some specific wording of his and reading far beyond what he is saying. English could be his 5th or 6th language and he would still know exactly how and how not to say "I have a contract and I am not going to leave" if that is what he 100% meant. It's just all open ended and meaningless babble - and I totally agree with you that footballers are thick, which I could also have a good moan about some time <laugh>.

Fair enough, personally I'm very happy that he's said something, rather than fuelling the media fire. The first article I've come across has this as the only quote:

"I'm not thinking of leaving in January - I'm very happy playing for this club. That's my job and I need to work hard for the team and the club. I have to focus on my job for Newcastle - that's what I have to do."

I see what you're saying but to me it sounds like he's saying that his mentality is you see out your contract, even if a better offer comes along.

We're happy with our player, he's happy with our club but talk is as cheap as Ashley's trackie bottoms - come the transfer window he'll cash in on 'Cheque' Tiote and we lose another future star to a club with some ambition. Nowt changes ever except the name of our stadium .... HWT!

I keep hearing this but who has Ashley "cashed in on" except Carroll? Nolan and Enrique we broke even and Barton left for free! If we get 35 more million then I can live with that.

WTF have you actually done to pi$$ people off so much?

I've not seen anything. Well.. I noticed some people were saying you're negative, but TBH there are many reasons why one could be given everything that's happened over the last few years.

    Quite happy myself.

Its good but its not really up to him. If the club decide to sell he has to go. It is very rare in modern football to see a player stay after being told he is not wanted by the club. Contracts and loyalty are a two way street, so just like when a player tells a club he no longer wants to be there, the move tends to happen. All Tiote is saying is - I'm not looking to go anywhere - the ball is firmly in the clubs court. Can anyone realistically think the club is in a position to knock back 25m+ offers? With agents around to badly advise and milk the scenario, it soon turns sour and becomes one against the other. I hope we can retain his services but he is awesome so I'd be amazed if a bid is not lodged.

I'm in. The for sale signs on my home are going up as we speak. All proceeds to the cause.
