Booze and tabs still cost pennies in Spain marra. Everything else is either the same price, or higher though. Problem Spain has, is that nobody pays tax, we all pay cash, we get cheaper, they don't declare it, and as a result, the country overall struggles, even if individuals don't.
Yeah, We're kind of agreeing, in a long winded way. My point was that top players in Germany, only really Bayern can afford them, whereas your 'standard' players, won't have a massive financial gain to move here. English clubs are richer, but the 50% tax evens it out, but to say they get paid more in Germany is probably only applicable to the lower earners.
Are you talking bars or supermarkets BB? As lads coming back from holiday tell me the opposite, that the bars are almost the same as over here now, considering the exchange rate.
Well, certain bars are the same or more than England mate, it totally depends on where you go, and knowing where to go. The big flash bars on the Costa del Sol are considerably more than England, but if you get tanked up in the smaller bars first, it works out cheaper. Supermarket booze is insanely cheap, for example, I got 72 cans of San Miguel on special in SuperSol for 8€!
Last time I was in Spain was 1996, they still had peseta's & we just hit lucky, we were getting 345 to the quid if irc. We were getting a litre of beer for 65p in Lloret De Mar. Happy days.
Average players in Germany will go for something like 20 million abroad, who wants to pay that? No one. So they stay put. The best players in Germany from Germany are few in numbers. Thinking about good Germans there's: Muller (Bayern) Lahm (Bayern) Neuer (Bayern) Schweinsteiger (Bayern) Gomez (Bayern) (I probably missed some out) Then there's the ones who aren't as good: Podolski (who plays for Köln) linked with a move to Arsenal for something like £15 million Boateng (Bayern) failed in England Then there's the likes of Ozil, Khedira, Klose and Mertesacker playing abroad.
I was in Tenerife working in 96 mate, when the Euro's were on. I remember we were in Linekers when we beat Spain on pens, there was ****ing hell on, windows came in, mass brawl. Totally unprovoked mind, and of course we, the English got the rub for that one. Good times tho!
Very true, and fair. Like England, a lot of the 'solid, but unspectacular' players are from African nations. A thing that does surprise me is that German defenders don't fare well abroad, Mertesacker being the latest in a fairly long line. People like Westermann, Howedes, Badstuber and Hummels look fantastic in Germany, but then you look at someone like Metzelder, went to Madrid, and was woeful. Put them all together in the national team though, and they are a superb unit, bizarre.
Ha ha. Gotta be done mate! I probs drink a lot more a week living in Spain, but not in binges, like i have done whilst here. Another thing you note, is in Marbella, you order a vodka and coke, it's Smirnoff or better, not cheap ****e like England, and the glass is 80% full, on that basis it's cheaper! Problem is, you don't drink any less glasses, so you end up absolutely plastered.
Isn't Marbella expensive as **** though? Popped ower there when we were in Torrie, couldn't afford to drink along the harbour what with Torrie being cheap as ****.
It is mate, but there are places that are ok, price wise. Torri, Benalmadena and Fuengirola are much cheaper, but they are resorts, Marbella isn't. You don't get mobs of people on the piss every day in Marbs, hence it's always gonna be a bit more as they sell less, plus city taxes in Marbella post codes are much higher, the other 3 places come under Mijas council, and they don't take the piss. Some places up Banus are a total piss take in the summer, but even in Marbs and Banus, there are decent, reasonably priced places if you know where to look, same as anywhere.
