Luka Modric, Firmly on United & Chelsea's radar at the beginning of the season. United known to be still sweet and have banded about a fee of £30 million for a January raid which again will test the Levy's resolve known to falter when Fergie comes a calling.

Looking at Spurs season so far arguably their best since the Montgolfier brothers invented the balloon. The reason for this, Modric? no Adebayor! Modric's performances have been, well ordinary at best leaving Chelsea fans relieved we didn't waste £40 million in August. Judging on his anonymity against Chelsea last week again blew cold against lowly Norwich.

Question is with Nasri having gone to Man City and Fab returned to Barcelona would the now cash rich Arsenal now be interested in matching United in the January window for his services? Modric obviously a decent player but not worth more than £17-25 million based on the last 18 months performances but could be a good addition to Arsenal's squad.

Do you think its a possibility or are you looking for someone with more loyalty at a more realistic price?

Aren't Chelsea about to buy Gary Cahill ? If it was form players clubs were interested in then no-one would go near this guy, he's been woeful this season.
As for Modric he certainly had his head turned in the Summer and his average performances have been masked by the above average performance of the team, perhaps this should have been added to the Tottenham board for their views as they will have seen more of him than any of us.
As for Arsenal I'm not convinced we're in the market for a midfielder, Jack will be back in a month and current midfield is OK, a gun striker and versatile full back is what we're looking for

Wow you are clearly clueless when it comes to football, modric has been one of the players of the season for spurs, he doesn't get as much recognition as bale etc but he keeps the ball so well for them and provides bale and vdv with the ball in good positions, he is a world class player, also £25m are you kidding? If henderson is worth £23m and carroll £35m then modric is £40m easily, but then again liverpool are fools for paying that amount for average players.

<laugh> I like Lucy, he's a good player. I don't think he'll end up at Arsenal, even though Wenger spotted his abilities long before Harry snuffled him up. Maybe he should have gone to Arsenal then, but we had Fabregas. Lucy would have been playing regular Champions league football and could have been truly world class by now.

I still think he might end up at Chelsea, but it's more likely Barca or Real Madrid will snap him up, especially if Spurs are playing Europey league football again next season.

I have to say I thought Wenger would have signed him in January 2008 but as you say he had Fab so a no go there but he would have been a good addition to the squad.

He would have, but I don't think we could have justified or accommodated having them both. Unless we'd loaned Lucy out to work at the Chelsea flower show - I think he said he 'wanted to go to Chelsea' didn't he ..... <whistle>

The worse thing that's happened to Tottenham this season is Chelsea struggling because that will mean chequebook out.
They proved last year (Torres) that money doesn't matter and when desperate enough they'll spend whatever it takes, I'd say Chelsea are in even more trouble this season (compared to last January) because the Man City investment now appears to be paying dividends and the 11 point difference will be somewhere between very difficult and impossible to bridge, and with Tottenham on fire and Arsenal hot on their heals Champions Lge qualification must now be in doubt.
I would not be at all surprised if Chelsea bid something stupid like £45m in Jan
I wonder what Abramovic will do if they failed to make CL ?

TBF I have already written off the next two seasons in regards to the title as Mourinho's Chelsea side need wholesale changes.

But what if CL qualification was in danger, would the average Chelsea fan accept this as part of the re-building ?

I don't see it as a real possibility but it could happen and one year in ten wouldn't be the end of the world. No one has ultimate right.

Spurs are in a situation in the PL where noboby that Chelsea fancy in their squad will be allowed to go to SB! Anywhere else (Arsenal excluded of course)

I agree no-one has a divine right to a CL spot, but Chelsea were in real danger last season so went out and spent £50m on a single player, to the neutral that stunk of desperation, how did Chelsea fans see it ?
I suppose he could sack yet another manager but I don't see what that would achieve, I think the fans reaction could have a big impact on what Abramovic's move would be which is why it's interesting to hear what fans reaction would be

  16. As I explained to SNIAW, the hope expressed in your comment is wonderfully juxtaposed by the despair in SNIAW's comment, a mere 4 hours later. It would have a crime for these comments not to have been preserved for posterity.

Firstly PISKIE, Luka was signed in July 08 by Ramos. Harry wasn't appionted until October 08. Therefore you whinge 'even though Wenger spotted his abilities long before Harry snuffled him up' is factually wrong and makes you sound like a little bitch. And if he'd gone to Woolwich he'd be truely world class by now. What a load of crap! If he wasn't world class then he wouldn't be more likely to be going to Real or Barca. That's your opinion remember.
Finally, you will be lucky to be playing in the 'Europey League' next year. You are 1 draw and Pool are 1 win from being on level points for that 5 place. And when the inevitable happens (RVP getting injured) you boys are screwed. The times they are a changin'

    COYS!
